Earth Liberation Front
The Earth Liberation Front (ELF) was established in 1992 in England and originally developed from members of Earth First! that did not want to give up the criminal acts as a method (Earth Liberation Front). Earth First! as an organization did not want to engage in violent attacks, but rather make change through protests and civil disobedience. ELF moved to North America in the mid-1990s. The group primarily operates in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States (Earth Liberation Front).
ELF would be considered a part of the Psychological and Sociological theories category with an emphasis on environmental terrorism because of the sociological unifying purpose and ideology of those that commits acts in the name of ELF. ELF is considered a domestic eco-terrorist group. ELF fits the description of a domestic terrorism group because of their violent actions within the United States against property to intimidate the government and businesses to further their objectives (Terrorism, Definitions, 2011).
ELF has three established objectives of the group that any individual claiming to act on the behalf of ELF must follow. These objectives are:
1) To inflict economic damage on those profiting from the destruction and exploitation of the natural environment;
2) To reveal and educate the public on the atrocities committed against

The group’s financial sources are not clear in general, but it is known that they were self-sustained (Jewish Defense League (a)). It is known that the group shares members and is allies with Kach, a terrorist group out of Israel, while it is suspected that the group is also allies with the Zionist Action Group (Jewish Defense League
Categorical terrorism, according to Jeff Goodwin, is defined as “the strategic use of violence and threats of violence, usually intended to influence several audiences, by oppositional political groups against civilian or noncombatants who belong to a specific entity, religious or national group, social class or some other collectivity, without regard to their individual identities or roles.” More so, in terms of definition, according to a study done by Jeffrey Record in 2003, there was a count of over 109 definitions of terrorism, covering 22 different categorical elements. During the 70s and 80s, the United Nations struggled to define the term, finally coming up with the following definition: “Criminal acts intended or calculated to provoke a state of terror in the general public, a group of persons or particular persons for political purposes are in any circumstance unjustifiable, whatever the considerations of a political, philosophical, ideological, racial, ethnic, religious or any other nature that may be invoked to justify them.”

There are many reasons as to why a country would allow their environment to be desecrated. Most of this rests within a money factor, being that the rainforest's provide an abundance of marketable resources. Logging companies are known as the most outstanding. In fact many corporations have realized that the rainforest supplies an abundance of resources, however, there are four that are the most prominent. These reasons are, farming, ranching, logging and business related attributes, and overpopulation.

...ty. It is available to reflect the social values of a society such as new concepts of justice. The law Reform Commission of Canada is persistently submitting legal proposals that can be used to improve a society and it also serves as a crucial role to the structure of law and the government and the Canadian Criminal Justice System. A proposal that has drawn a lot of debate is the idea of whether environmental destruction and maltreatment should be criminalized. After examining the given themes, environmental harm should not be considered a crime. The undesirable outcomes of criminalizing environmental harm outweigh the positives of criminalizing such a reform. Although the environment affects people’s lives, so do the laws and regulations. This crime is too broad and may result in more harm than good in the Canadian society and the Canadian Criminal Justice System.
Earth First! In effort to take a non-violent approach to protecting the environment, Earth First! made its mark in the late 1970s. However, during that time, the group had little to no impact on environmental policies, and many of its members decided that the group was not radical enough, despite the leader’s request to continue using non aggressive strategies. This led to the establishment of ELF in the early 1990s. The ELF’s purpose is to carry out the most violent “direct-action” agenda, with a goal similar to ALF to inflict the maximum economic damage to the enterprises they felt were destroying the environment. Some of their acts included breaking into farms, releasing animals, setting fires to buildings, and wrecking offices that provided services to businesses they are
