There are many social networks that have created broad connections between people in the past years. Since the creation of Social Media, countless numbers of people have begun joining them due to their rising popularity and free cost of a download. These networks help create a virtual realm for users to be themselves or whoever they want to be at their discretion. Escaping all the troubles and heartaches that the real world has in store for you is only temporary until the next time you log on. The most common issue that is up for debate that you must continually ask yourself is “Is Social Networking a good or bad thing?” I think social networking is a negative influence on people. . I believe taking caution is necessary for people using social networks due to the negative ramifications that follow after long term usage of them. You can access Twitter, Facebook, and other social Medias at the touch of a finger. There are some positive influences that social networking has to offer; people can develop “life-long relationships” as well as becoming more cyber social which could possibly break the fear barrier for introverted individuals (Taylor). For others, it seems we have made social networking have higher importance in our everyday lives. We wake up in the morning and the first thing we do is check our Twitter or Facebook. Relying on these social networks to keep our lives balanced has become more of a nuisance than a solution to our social problems. The more we use these social media every day, the more we continue to render ourselves helpless to facing the harsh reality of the real world that we live in. The twenty first century is the age of the “Internet” which guarantees people information at the touch of their fingertips. Intelligence of any subject can be acquired- personal or private- in a matter of seconds. This method of public privacy is practiced by numerous social networking websites, which hold personal data of its users. Facebook and Twitter have promised to engulf people with their warmth, keeping them interacted with friends, updated with trends, and connected with society. While several buy into this ruse, they neglect the undesirable effects of networking, which eventually led to depression, presenting a social paradox. The virtual relationships formed online through social networks, are intended to replace physical interaction; people become immensely socialized through a new avenue of communication and remain “connected” with friends or family. This common contact behind masked computer screens eventually becomes insufficient. Yet, people seem to be addicted to social websites resulting in a continuous, daily dependence upon these networking mediums. The more society becomes reliant on social networking, the more people become victims of isolation and depression, as these types of websites merely detach people from physical communication and significant interactions.
The carnival grotesque, with its freak shows and abnormal humans, was very popular and controversial back in the late 18th to early 19th century, by then it had matured into a distinct form of entertainment. In the 21st century, has the concept become dated? Has the freak show been revealed for the mistreatment and subjugation of many poor human beings? We live in times where many things that were once discriminated are now accepted and many kinds of people recognized as members of society and although there are instances that would challenge that notion, it is only a minority. This represents the progress mankind has made to understand one another. But has the idea of the freak show been abandoned with this new period? It is unfortunate to say that is not the case. In fact if anything it has only intensified with the advancement of society, particularly relating with technology and social networking. Social networking is the spectacle and barker in this relationship of the freak show to modern times. It is because of social networking, that we can see examples of the freak show displayed in our daily lives. I want to explore this further, explaining in greater detail how the freak show and the carnival grotesque have advanced with society as everything else and in fact plays on these advancements to contribute to the spectacle of the freak show and grotesque.
Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter are just a few of the online social networking we utilize every day, which has made an easier connection to others than before. A social network is made up of individuals or groups that are tied up by one or more specific kinds of relationships such as friendships. It is now becoming more popular through the social media such as Facebook and Skype than the traditional person to person contact. These websites have contained information of people worldwide who are looking to develop new friendships or to simply join a group. Despite there is a good impression of social networking to the social, it also had implications on individual’s health and social networking.
There is no denying that social networking is an integral part of modern society. We spend all day updating our statuses about the latest episode of True Blood, or liking our friends’ photographs from their recent trips abroad. Our language has evolved to include words like “vlogging” and “tweeting” (which mean video blogging and posting to Twitter, respectively). Our “feeds” are linked to our cell phones, so they become available at the touch of a button. Social networking websites such as Facebook enable the world to constantly be connected; making the old ideas of groups (book clubs and tea parties, anyone?) seem vintage and obsolete.
Social media is the means of connecting people together via the access to the wide web. It includes sharing, communicating and a large variety of other things. However, social media is ironically making us less social in real life situations. For example, nowadays at any café it is guaranteed to find at least a small group of friends/family sitting down and are not interacting with each other as they are using social media through their smartphones or tablets. Social media gives us a virtual world in which we control making us portray ourselves the way we want to, makes us lose authentic interaction with friends and family, people use social media as a channel to express their thoughts and feelings rather than opening up to family or friends,
Technology is a very effective tool for staying plugged in and connected with the world. Social networking sites began with original, positive intentions. Social networking sites are a great way to be aware of the most recent news. In Friends, Followers, and the Future, writer, filmmaker, and journalist Rory O’Connor whose work centers around media and politics states, “Ironically, we live in a media-saturated era, one in which news and information from a wide range of sources is readily available to many of us for the first time in history” (24). Another respectable original intent...
Social networking is the biggest industry in the current world. Its popularity is increasing from the day it’s first used. Social networking began in 1978 with the name Bulletin Board System, and it is hosted on personal computers, and it requires the user dial through which users can exchange information over phone lines with other users. In the later years, the web browsers are distributed using Bulletin Board Usenet which allowed users to post news articles. Geocities was the first social networking site introduced in 1994 which helped users to create their own websites. After this, Friendster was the social networking site which acquired three million users in first three months, and it served as a launching point for MySpace. This is followed by Classmate.com, LinkedIn, Tribe.net and Facebook.com. Since its launch, facebook has become the most popular social networking site among all the sites available (Walker, 2011).
and family, and also “meet like-minded people” ( Metz, par. 1). In some cases, business people such as Ron West, claim that he uses Facebook “to become acquainted with new customers”( par. 8). Yes, these types of websites are great tools to stay in touch with old classmatesand faraway family members. It is a great source of communication, but there is always a con to every pro. Long-range informal communication social networking sites are a piece of ordinary life and they have accumulated revolutionary progressions correspondence between individuals. All these sort of informal communities (social networks) speaks to the start of the beginning of new era. Many people worry about the bad impact that social networking sites brings to our social life. They think that social networks lead to worst situation or scenario in our life. From these networking sites Facebook is the most popular site and it contains lots of function like when any user stars Facebook, they have to generate their profile picture as well as fill personal information. Excessive use of social media has been linked with depression. Nearly 400 million people in the world have accounts on either Facebook or MySpace.Doctors say it is not healthy for a person to compare him/herself to other people continuously as this can lead to a negative self image.."They don't like me" and "I'm not good enough" are thoughts that run through some peoples minds; these thoughts and others like them lead to an unhealthy life and depression. Study author Professor Paul Kirschner said, "The problem is that most people have Facebook or other social networking sites, their emails and maybe instant messaging constantly running in the background while they are carrying out other tasks. These mistakes can lead to depression." A new study about Facebook depression found that the more time a person spends on Facebook, the more his/her feelings of good health decrease and feelings of depression increase. Ethan Kross, the lead researcher on the project, explains that normal people fear "missing out" and easily become addicted. (Facebook Causes Depression New Study Say) Social networker Mohammed Gols...
Since the birth of social media, people have become less productive in socially interacting with society. Social media websites such as: Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram are causing people to rely on these sites. People must remember to limit themselves because soon their profile can become fraud if someone else uses it to their advantage. Another reason can be that they can become social networking addicts, that their online life is their fantasy world. It can also result in them becoming “like” addicts, which is when they constantly need to check on their status and see how many “likes” they've received. Social media can change people's attitude and engage their lives to these social networking sites, also known as SNS. People should limit how long they spend social networking and embrace human connections.
