In Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible”, John Proctor demonstrates the traits of a good person. To be good, one must have a measure or definition of what is good. “Good” will be defined as what helps a group, and “evil” will be defined as what harms the group. John is good because he tries to stop people from being hanged, thus benefiting the group of townspeople. John is also good because he tries to stop the court from unjust hangings. Although this harms the court and the church, and can be viewed as evil, from the perspective of the town and the people in it, this is good because it saves people from being hanged.
