The witches in The Crucible are manipulative for obvious reasons like taking control over people’s minds and bodies, or saying there were others conversing with the Devil along with them. One example of this is when all the girls are screaming accusations “I saw Goody Hawkins with the Devil!...I saw Goody Bibber with the Devil!...I saw Goody Booth with the Devil!”(189).The girls pointing out a scapegoat it makes people believe they aren't as bad as the witches who have done worse deeds. In The Crucible their society didn’t want to help them, they would rather have them killed. One example of this is when Putnam says “This women must be hanged! she must be taken and hanged!”(188). Putnam was one of many who just wanted the witches hung, they didn’t care if it was wrong. Abigail once said “I’m a good girl!I’m a proper girl!”(187). People believed only bad people were witches and if you were good person you wouldn’t be accused of witchcraft. Society believes that the witches should not be saved because they are bad
