Introduction
Sports have been one of the major mainstays of broadcasting since the beginning of the 12th century. In most countries globally sport viewing is unquestionably a luxury good that is held with high esteem especially by men. There is greater expenditure on sports in the wealthiest countries of the world. Broadcasting has changed the dynamic of sports in a significant manner since the 12th century while at the same time broadcasting has been changed by the potential of sports. It is difficult to conceive sports that do not require some sort of equipment that is technologically related. The inter-relation between sports, television and technology due to the outburst in the popularity of sports game and video games has greatly grown. National and local television networks stations usually broadcasts many hours of sport coverage each year to millions of viewer worldwide. However, it usually fails to cover women that have been engaged in the sports activities and this reflects the way women are treated in the society. Messner, (1992) asserts that women and girls are the majority of the population and most of them tend to love sports. Some scholars believe that because of the marginalization of women in the sport department the coverage of their sports is limited (Michael, Warren and Paul, 2003). If women get more equal opportunity in television broadcast, the coverage of their sports such as female athletics, softball and others will get equal coverage like men since the women sports writers, broadcasters, editors will ensure proper and wider
