The Choice: The Pros And Cons Of Abortion

1235 Words3 Pages

Introduction: Abortion continues to be a controversial topic now forty years after the U.S. Supreme Court found it to be a fundamental right in the historic Roe vs. Wade decision. Much of the debate claims to be founded upon scientific or constitutional issues. When examined closely this is just not true. In reality many of the proponents on either side use the facts to justify their positions rather than basing their opinions on established science or law. As we all know, everyone has an opinion, but when it comes down to making the imperative decision, only one person is held responsible of that. To further complicate the problem a large sector of the debate is founded in religious beliefs and these proponents seek to impose their religious laws and dogma on the general American population. As stated in the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, "God alone is the Lord of life from its beginning until its end: no one can, in any circumstances, claim for himself the right to destroy directly an innocent human being" [6] Thesis: Every woman has rights and they should be respected. I believe abortion is a fundamental right consistent with Roe vs. Wade. It is nobody’s decision but the woman making the decision. I don’t think we should be forcing women to keep babies when some girls are getting pregnant at the age of 14 years old these days. Most of these women do not have the knowledge or much needed motherly instinct to successfully raise a child in these times. Although I believe religion is simply something that people turn to when they have nowhere left to go and nobody left to turn to, religion and religious views should stand back and look at the big picture and take note of the problems in society due to crimina... ... middle of paper ... ...r positions rather than basing their opinions on established science or law. It is every individual’s right to make a decision like the abortion of a child. It is their choice on not to bring a beautiful child into this world if they cannot afford to take care of the child, care for the child, and give the child the best possible life they deserve. Therefore, the courts should continue to hold that abortion is a fundamental right consistent with Roe vs. Wade. In furtherance of this they should find any other accusations unconstitutional and strike down any legislature that seeks to deprive women of this fundamental right. With that said, this world may be a better place with abortion. As crude as that sounds, having more undereducated, disregarded, unloved children in this world will just sink us further into overall depression in this dog eat dog world we live in.
