Abstract Child abuse is a global problem that is deeply rooted in cultural, economic and social practices. It is a state of emotional, physical, economic and sexual maltreatment meted out to a person below the age of eighteen and is a globally prevalent phenomenon. The United States has one of the worst records among industrialized nations, losing more than four children on average every day to child abuse and neglect (Goldman, Salus, Wolcott & Kennedy, 2003). Children are suffering from child abuse and neglect each day. Child abuse can occur in every socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural level. It is the upmost importance to have organization in place for prevention, treatment and interventions for child abuse. Child abuse happens in many different ways, but the result is the same whether it a serious physical or emotional harm. Child abuse is emotional, physical, economic and sexual maltreatment that occurs among children ranging from eighteen years of age and below. Child abuse and or maltreatment constitutes all forms of physical and emotional ill-treatment, sexual abuse, neglect or negligent treatment resulting in actual or potential harm to the child’s health and survival.
Statement of the Problem Child abuse is a rising problem that is tormenting children today. More than 903, 000 children are confirmed as victims of abuse or neglect each year in the U.S. (NCCCANI, 2003). Child abuse is known as any avoidable and non-accidental act that causes physical injury to a child and is inflicted by someone who is responsible for that child’s well-being.
