Scrub them off every once in awhile, or else the light won’t come in.” (George Bernard Shaw) The idea of being able to “think outside of the box” is commonly used that it seems to have lost its meaning. But, in a sense, it’s the easiest way to teach people to be open to different ideas and opinions. Being open to different ideas and perspectives helps one develop analytical skills. Good readers exemplify my characteristics that can not only be learned but that can be developed. A good reader is someone who has an open mind and doesn’t assume what will happen next. Reading and writing are two skills that can be developed together. They work cohesively because you learn so much from reading that leads straight back to writing. Personally,I believe, all good readers go back and reflect on the piece of literature they just read. “The real importance of reading is that it creates an ease and intimacy with the process of writing...Constant reading will pull you into a place where you can write eagerly and without self-consciousness”(King) Reading builds up the skills of a good writer. It leads one to being able to write without having to overthink the context. It just flows straight into a paper without having to think about it twice. I believe that I am a strong writer when I know the context. I can honestly I wouldn’t be able to write a strong paper about my summer reading homework because I skimmed over the book to understand what was going on when I encountered a quote I liked. Writing a paper about something I am familiar with is not that difficult. Therefore, being able to go from reading a text to writing about a text is something that a good reader
