Kidagakash Nedakh, or Kida for short, is the princess of the lost continent of Atlantis in the movie Atlantis: The Lost Empire. She has bright white hair, bright blue eyes, and a dark tan skin color. She adorns Atlantean-style attire which is closely related to an ancient civilization’s style. Kida is the deuteragonist of this movie meaning that she is the person second in importance to the protagonist. The events the princess endures throughout the movie give rise to the essence of her character. Kida’s traits, both personal and cultural, come from her empire’s history which empowers her purpose in her role as the Princess of Atlantis. She exemplifies many traits and characteristics of a warrior princess. There are four main attributes to focus in on. First, Kida is a curious individual. She expresses this in many scenes of the movie from beginning to end. The first time we see this is when a group of outsiders are found within her realm. She approaches them wearing a giant tribal-like mask and begins to rummage through their things curiously (Atlantis: The Lost Empire). Second, she is very intelligent. More importantly, it is her ability to pick up on the new language of the crew along with its slang and nuances that contributes to this trait. This helps her to seek out her personal ambition and to understand the answers between their cultural barrier as well. Third, Kida has the physical attributes associated with a warrior. She is tall and lean. Her attire allows her to be swift and agile when she must run, swim, or climb. This trait is most important for her collective combat needs. Lastly, she has powers and abilities bestowed on her from her Atlantean culture. Kida can be seen wearing a crystal necklace that holds a piece of their culture’s deity, the Heart of Atlantis (Atlantis: The Lost Empire). This crystal gives her healing powers and signifies her importance to Atlantis. They intended to steal the crystal, take it home with them, and sell it. The crystal bonded with Kida when it sensed this danger which forced the crew to lock her up and take her with them. King Kashekim then explains to Milo that the crystal has a consciousness. He says “it thrives on the collective emotions of the Atlanteans and provides power, protection, and longevity in return. It will find a royal host when Atlantis is in Danger” (Atlantis: The Lost Empire). This was Kida’s destiny, just as it was her mother’s thousands of years ago. As the volcano beneath the remnants of Atlantis erupted, Kida’s bond with the Heart of Atlantis began to create the same dome-like structure from the beginning of the movie.
