He lifted his head looking around. He saw men dying, he saw the fire of grenades but he could not see his brother, James had not followed him into that hole. Another group of men jumped into the hole and yelled at William "GET UP, WE MUST KEEP MOVING" one man grabbed him by the collar and lifted him up forcing him to move his legs and run, William's mind was racing and he did not believe that his brother could be dead, so he kept running. He kept running as the men who dragged him out of the hole began to fall to the bullets from a German's gun. William kept running until the screams of dying men and the terror of guns and explosions were far in the distance. William collapsed and everything went dark, he had passed out. When William awoke, he was sitting in a medical tent of what looked like the Royal Irish Regiment's base in France. Before he could open his mouth two Irish Officers walked in with a stern look on their faces. "Lad, what were you doing on that field, 3 miles from your Battalion" one of the officers firmly asked. "I uh, um I don't know" William said not sure what to reply
