In “The Buffalos” William Carlos Williams writes, “Let me tell you a story (258).” I will tell you about my unpredictable job with drugs. After graduating high school, college was a not an option. I needed a job to help my mother economically and started working at Kmart our local retail store. It was a job with no future so I decided to optain a trade instead. I enrolled in a pharmacy technician program and after completing my training, I got my first job as a pharmacy technician. I never thought working at a pharmacy would be a dangerous choice. Sara was my new boss and owned the pharmacy with her husband. The clients at this pharmacy where mostly African Americans or Hispanics and many worked at the long beach port. I began to notice that a few customers would drop off many prescription belonging to other people. These prescriptions where for opioids (narcotic) pain medication, anxiety medication or cough syrups all prescribed in large quantities. I knew very little about prescription medications being abused and sold on the streets. …show more content…

I saw a customer walk in and went to greet him at the counter. He was a slender tall African American man wearing a hooded sweeter and carrying a bag. I said “good morning can I help you?” He pointed a gun at me and jumped over the counter not saying a word. I moved to the back where all the medication was kept. Sara was in her office and when she saw him she shut the door and locked herself in. Sara’s husband and I were told to get on the ground and I did what i was told. I shut my eyes hoping this would end soon. I could hear him yelling and banging on the door for her come out. She finally did open the door and that’s when he asked her to put all the narcotic medications in his
