In the dystopian novel of The Brief and Frightening Reign of Phil, the theme is Loss of love. Loss of love is both demonstrated inside the novel and as well it is presented in the real world life where real humans live in. Who knew that in a fiction novel it can seem so real as these situations that are happening in the novel were not made up and were real things happening to the Characters. Just like these situations happening in the novel they are actually happening in the real world today. There are two Hornerities in the novel which are Inner and Outer. The Inner Hornerites lost their land where they lived in. The Outer Hornerite still has their land as well as they also have a Short-Term Residency place. In the Short-Term residency that is where the Inner Horner’s stayed and the Outer Hornerites taxed them in order for them to live there. In his book, The Brief and Frightening Reign of Phil, George Saunders maintains that “Then one day Inner Horner got smaller. It happened without warning; there was a loud scraping rock-on-rock sound and suddenly three-quarters of Elmer, the Inner Hornerite then in residence, was not in Inner Horner at all” (Saunders 3). In other words, Saunders believes that out of nowhere the Inner Horner land just shrunk and only three-quarters of Elmer was left and they were no longer in their Inner horner residence. Phil did not grow up with his father, his father out of nowhere just abandoned him. Where Phil never did hear about him ever again. In his book, The Brief and Frightening Reign of Phil, George Saunders maintains that “Then he remembered the dark days after his father left, when suddenly there was more room to get the refrigerator open but no reason to open it, since there was never anything inside. Why had Dad left? Phil knew very well why”( Saunders 105). Saunders’s point is that Phil’s dad had left him and he never saw him after the day he had left but Phil did know the reason why he had decided to leave him. In this case, phil knew exactly for why his father left him. Another reason for why Phil does not like the Inner Hornerites is because he blames them for why his dad left him because the Inner Hornerites Humiliating his dad. Whereas, in a real life situation kids are getting abandoned by their parents, leaving them with nothing but for them to take care of themselves. Three children in the city of Englewood in Chicago were left alone by their parents. In David Cera’s view “The officers were doing a wellness check last month in the Englewood neighborhood when they found the three children -- ages 1, 2 and 7 -- now known as the ‘Englewood angels.’ The girls had been left alone in an abandoned house” (N.p).

The very beginning of the novel The Death Cure by James Dashner starts off with Thomas, the protagonist, trapped in a solid white room. He is trapped there for months. As he is in the room, he may have thought “ Oh, me, myself and I, solo ride until I die” (G-Eazy). This is a lyric from G-Eazy’s Me, Myself and I. The song is about being alone and not wanting to be with no one. Although Thomas does wish to see and to somebody, he goes perseveres through his problems just like the singer in the song.
"Death cannot stop true love. All it can do is delay it for a while." This quote summarizes Catherine and Henry's love for each other. Even though Catherine died, Henry had a huge space of emptiness left in his heart. Marriages in today's society are very serious relationships although some people don't seem to take them so seriously. (590) The passage shows that Cal is trying to romance Abra. He knows Abra is venerable because Aron is away in the army and she misses him. By Aron absent, Abra needs a man and she turns to Cal.

From the hood life, ghetto neighborhood, Three African-American made a pact to become successful doctors and face the obstacles that can lead them to down fall together. The Pact, a memoir written by Dr. Sampson Davis, George Jenkins, and Rameck Hunt, describes their story in the 1980s of becoming doctors and the struggle that they faced. The three Young men were each other’s motivator. They followed each other’s steps and helped themselves succeed. One of them is Sampson Davis, a kid who grew up in those bad circumstances but still made it through that path and became a doctor.
Throughout The Power and the Glory, numerous characters question the integrity and authenticity of the priest doing his job. Instead, he is known as a “whiskey priest”, and someone who failed as a priest, resulting in a child, and poor habits. He is the opposite of what a real priest should be. Some think of the priest as good and others think of him as bad. But despite the priests flaws and well known reputation for being a bad priest, his holiness is shown through his actions and confessions of faith to others.
Much like Lorraine Hansberry, Madeleine L’Engle believes that “the growth of love is not a straight line, but a series of hills and valleys.” Lillian Hellman’s The Little Foxes, Tennessee Williams’ Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, A Streetcar Named Desire, and The Glass Menagerie, and Robert Harling’s Steel Magnolias use the idea that even through struggles their characters show that love always endures. Although loving someone, who is not particularly loveable, is one of the most difficult parts of being human, it is possible by remembering that addictions can be reversed, blood is forever, and a ring is more than just an object.
A Hard Past and Harder Future In the novel The Reader by Traci Chee the past events of two main characters affect them negatively in the present. After Sefia’s mother dies and one of the antagonist named Sakaaran kills her father, Sefia’s aunt Nin is the only one she has left. When the other antagonist Hatchet captures Nin, Sefia is left alone and unwilling to love anyone or be loved. Another negative effect of this is that Sefia’s only goal is to get revenge on the people who killed and captured her family.
Throughout the novel So Much to Tell You by John Marsden the subject of boarding school is widely explored. Constantly the same question is asked, was boarding school beneficial for Marina? During Marina’s time in Warrington it is shown that she begins to open out of her shell more, begins to accept the changes made in her life and she starts to grow stronger friendships which help her talk to her Father again. Despite the advantages, Marina still has to deal with being separated from her family, the disfigurement of her face and the choice of silence. Though these attributes make school life harder for her, the time spent in Warrington was much more beneficial than living in the hospital.

Though the characters are still living and breathing, some are barely doing so, and a number of the characters succumb to death by the end of the novel. But before they succumb, the characters are instigated, by their relationship to family and friends, to resist death. Love is shown to dominate life, and the degree to which someone will want to live. But when the love is lost, the will is lost. In the case of survival, as well as in other cases of lost love in relationships, memories of the past arise, and people feel angry, guilty and lonely. To live is to love.
