Prostitution is one of the most controversial subjects in the United States. There are many pros and cons to this subject. Should prostitution be legalized? Or should it stay illegal with no chance of becoming decriminalized? Some researchers confirm that prostitution is indeed the most ancient profession, while others argue with it; however, everybody agrees that trading sex for money has existed for quite a while. Prostitution is still a part of modern society. The fact speaks for itself, as there will always be a demand for the services that it provides, prostitution will exist in some form no matter what.
First, Prostitution shouldn’t be criminalized because it is a victimless crime. In no way is there a victim in what prostitutes do, of course you could argue that the spreading of diseases could be a victim. But the fact that it could happen during regular intercourse should completely nullify that argument in favor of legalizing. Criminalizing prostitution is a way for slowing the spread of sexually transmitted diseases; it is not a way to confront the problem of STD’s. Second, prostitution should be something of free choice, not to be stopped by the government. People have sex all the time; it is a natural part of human nature. Why should something like that be controlled and stopped? In a typical year, legal brothels generate about $50 million in total revenue and have an economic impact of about $400 million on the state. With taxes and even a price floor prostitution could prove to be one of the United States’ best source of income. If prostitution was legalized it might have made the United States enough money to get us out of the huge debt were in.
The legalization of prostitution seems to be the best decision in this case. In my opinion there are a large amount of pros and with those a small amount of cons. Almost every con could be countered effectively with one of the pros listed above. But it would seem that in most people’s eyes the cons out-weigh the pros. Most likely the near future would not have legal prostitution.

In this modern age there are several classes of prostitutes with several methods of finding work, but they still face violence in their business. Though prostitutes are frowned upon by society and treated as criminals, under the law they should not be scrutinized by the morals of the people. The power to legalize prostitution is a state power; however, most states have chosen not to legalize this service. Some view prostitution as a business, selling goods and services to make a profit, but others view it as morally wrong. Most people think selling one’s body for money should not be promoted, but others simply see prostitution as business.
In closing, the argument that the author presents falls weak in most aspects. Though he seems to have positive end results to the issue, the immoral act of prostitution still is part of the solution. As proven before, legal prostitution could lead to an excess of prostitutes that could ruin the appearance of our country, it does not control ones animal-like impulses, but merely lets them run wild, it uses sex as a drug that could lead to an increase of sex ?junkies?, the crime rate could possible increase, rather than decrease, and the spread of STD?s will not be effected positively. The best way to fix the issue of prostitution is to continue fighting it, till eventually the message gets across that prostitution is wrong, and does not lead to a profitable life financially, or morally.
There are many reasons why prostitution is illegal some do make sense on why it is illegal. That still doesn’t mean that the government can tell us what to do with our life choices. A reason why it is illegal is because of homicide. How this works is by the customer promising a big load of cash. Then when they are done he or she does not pay and then kills the prostitute. Unfortunately, sometimes it could be the customer that gets killed just like what Aileen Wuornos did. Aileen Wuornos was a former prostitute that found a way to make easy money without having sex. Instead of having sex with the customer she would kill them and take their money. From her crime that she committed I can understand why it is illegal. The only problem with that not everyone wants to have sexual intercourse with a prostitute. It is basically like doing drugs or drinking underage or not there are people who want to do it then there are people who chose not to do it. I am not saying doing drugs and drinking is not a proud thing to do, but it is a human right
Legalizing prostitution could change into a more positive outcome. It is not necessarily a lifestyle that has to be permanent. It can be used to get an education as mentioned earlier. A daughter/son does not need to be a drug addict to sell themselves. Rather, for a brief moment they could work as a prostitute to get ahead financially. If legal, parents could feel secure knowing that the government has their young adult working in a safe environment. Their child is being tested for diseases regularly. Remember condoms are mandatory, which would illuminate any STD’S that could possibly be shared. They do not need to worry about pimps, or trafficking, since prostitution would be legalized. Prostitution could be personal gain. Feeling successful financially causes the opposite of low self-esteem. A young adult would feel important and know that they are actually making a difference in the economy. They would be paying taxes and at the end of the year file like all working class Americans.
