How do you think the military contributes to society? There are multiple ways the Armed Forces contribute to society. “Members of the military deploy to combat zones or any other dangerous areas” (Occupational Outlook Handbook: Work Environment). Jobs like this may not be safe, but soldiers do this in ways others would not. While serving this country, these soldiers gain multiple benefits. These benefits consist of how soldiers get paid, jobs of their choosing, and educational benefits. Soldiers get paid depending on their ranking and once they rank higher the more they get paid. One way their college is paid for is by the 9-11 Bill or the Montgomery GI Bill but they must apply for these scholarships. The military prefers their soldiers to …show more content…

First, these soon to be soldiers will go to basic training. During this training, they will be trained mentally and physically. “The purpose of this is to teach them what they need to know and to break them down and to build them back up” say Jackson. Also another “important thing at basic, soldiers will learn attention to detail this is important because soldier have to pay attention to everything” says Ray. After basic training these new soldiers will be sent to Advance Individual Training (AIT). “Depending on your job it will depend on how many weeks you will be in AIT,” says Jackson. After the trained soldiers are sent to their next assignment, whether it be college or in other cases, being deployed to another country. “83% of the military are enlisted personal and the other 17% are officers which manages activities and enlisted personal” (Occupational Outlook Handbook: What they do). The purpose of the 83% enlisted personal usually consists of “combat, military operations such as disaster relief, repair equipment, and preform technical and support activities” (Occupational Outlook Handbook: What they do). As an enlisted personal, the soldiers are expected to listen to those whom are above them and to do their job. In the reserves soldiers are able to live in the civilian world but are in the military as part-time. On the other hand soldier whom are active duty are most likely to “live on or near a base throughout the United States” (Occupational Outlook Handbook: Work Environment). When being in active duty soldiers are full-time but may work longer if necessary. Soldiers that are in the “reserve are able to deploy if needed but some to stay at home or where they are located” say Ray. Another difference between active and reserves are the benefits. Active duty soldiers are able to get the full benefits while on the other hand reserve soldiers only get half of the benefits. Even though there is a difference between these two one thing in the military is that all soldiers are required to be in “physical shape, mentally stable, and to be ready and support a combat mission at any time that may be dangerous or even difficult” (Occupational Outlook Handbook: Work
