Over the past nine years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has seen the addition of a significant amount of new heroes and characters, while also allowing classic heroes such as Iron Man and Captain America to be fleshed out and developed over the span of the films. Iron Man, also known as Tony Stark, is a rich genius who developed his own technologically-equipped suit of armor. The character had the honor of paving the way for future MCU films when his leading film was released in 2008. Since then, the self-proclaimed “genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist” has played a major role in many MCU films, his most recent being Spider-Man: Homecoming (“Avengers”). Moving past the shared successes of their films, the characters themselves have been found to be quite dissimilar. Regardless of the camaraderie which would develop between the two, a substantial amount of tension has been showcased since the first film they appeared in together, The Avengers, while slowly escalating as the years went on. In fact, their beliefs and differences are so great that they indirectly caused their shared friends and colleagues to choose sides in Captain America: Civil War. However, these encounters would be key elements in the development of his character. At a young age, he also met his life-long best friend, James “Bucky” Barnes, who promised to always be with him “until the end of the line” (“Winter”). World War II was probably the biggest instigator to Steve taking on the Captain America persona. When the time to enlist came around and a sense of American duty occupied the minds of many able-bodied individuals, including Bucky, it was no wonder why the same mentality was present in the future super-soldier’s head. Steve had the will to join his country and friend in taking down Nazis; however, the means to do so was another story. The enlistment offices declined his desperate attempts to enlist due to his poor health conditions. City after city he tried and failed, going as far as illegally falsifying his enlistment form in the hopes of being accepted into the United States Armed Forces.
