This paper, titled “Building the Australian Dream explores the effect of that dream which resulted in an iconic housing design culture on the Eastern States of Australia; Queensland,and Victoria 1945-1955.This is better known as the Do It Yourself culture .The Australian dream is the result of of many factors that was initially triggered by the end of World War II.
What is it that made the Do It Yourself culture exist in the start and form its own exisstance? What was it about, that it influenced towards the design and construction of homes.’The Australian Dream will question this”

INTRODUCTION
The Australian Dream (Great Australian Dream) acts as the belief of personal homeownership as the ultimate expression of a person’s security and success. The Australian dream is the result and came into fruition of many factors that was initially triggered by the end of World War II. When World War II finished, Australia and the rest of the world shifted towards recovery and construction. As a result,a strong manufacturing industry was created with the help of the Australian government. In combination with the low unemployment rates, the baby boom and the removal of rent controls, and various other contributers,the Australian Dream grew exponentially fast at this time.

IDENTITY
The Australian Dream was strongly believed by the majority Australians and was constantly sought after.The end of World War II, resulted in a large record of Australians wanting to set up a house they can call “Home” creating the start of a major housing boom It was fuelled by a marked population increa...
