World poverty is has been one of the biggest issues around the world. According to the website Social & Economic Injustice, there is a staggering number with over 40 percent of the world's population living in extreme poverty, and more than 1.2 billion people, or about 20 percent of the world population, living on $1 to survive every day (The Argumentative Essay - Eliminating Extreme Poverty). The question is where does the responsibility rely on the fight against world hunger? Should more affluent areas of the world be responsible for the hunger dilemmas or should it rely on the area where the hunger problems exist. I believe that the responsibility falls more towards the area with the problem and that they should have little assistance from the affluent areas.
Individual nations around the world have multiple economic and social problems that exist within their borders. These include but are not limited to crime, hunger, poverty, and addiction. Poverty, although a horrible situation, is an endless fight. Sending monetary assistance will last forever. If anything, the more affluent areas should teach either the leadership or the people directly how to earn, utilize and circulate money efficiently. There is an old Chinese proverb that says “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” This proverb perfectly illustrates what nations and assisting nations should be doing in order to fight the problem of world hunger. We should be emphasizing self-reliance and life skills rather than monetary assistance. I believe that when giving money to others it can be easily “misplaced”, but directly teaching someone a skill cannot. Sometimes teaching skills is more reliable and more useful than
