The world of Romance is replaced by the world of Tragedy where goodness is defeated. In this film, tragedy will present the hardships of age, knowledge and braveness. The hero of this typical tragedy archetype becomes lost and their defeat may bring a success to their cause. The main character, Dian Fossey, she starts off as innocent, inexperienced. She embarks on this journey with no knowledge about the gorillas. Even though she has knows that she has not many experience for this task, she shows determination and passion. She shows affection for this gorillas as the time continues. She died with her determination of not letting the species die. Second, Dr. Leakey is the mentor and free spirit. He helps Dian embark on her journey but is carefree enough to live her alone in an unknown place. Next is Sembagare, the loyal sidekick and best friend. He is always on her side and is almost always beside her on the film. When Dian starts to lose her mind, he helps her get back up. After Dian dies, he arranges for her to be buried besides Digit in the jungle and makes the circle of stones around the two graves. At last, Bob Campbell is the lover. He becomes her lover and is willing to divorce his wife just to live with Dian. He then wants to take Dian with him but Dian has to sacrifice her love for him in order to

Archetypes can be thought as blueprints or as bundles of psychic energy that influence the manner in which we understand and react to life. There are two different categories of archetypes, the plot archetype and the character archetype. The orphan, martyr, wanderer, warrior, magician, villain, wise child, temptress, rebel, underdog, fool, saint, virgin, wise, old man or woman are all considered to be character archetypes. In the book the main characters are Jay Berry, Daisy, Rowdy, Grandpa, and the monkeys. The secondary characters are Ma, Pa, Grandma, and Sally Goodin. The beginning started with Jay telling about how his family moved to the Cherokee hills. The book ended with Jay giving his money to Daisy to fix her leg.
