On October 13, 1972, forty-five people on board departed from Uruguay to Chile. The small plane crashed onto a frosty mountain in the Andes. Ten weeks later, it was considered as one of the most harrowing nightmare in recorded history. Successfully, sixteen people were rescued from the accident. In between, the survivors suffered spiritually and physically where they became powerless every following day. Equally important, the eating of human flesh of their dead companions. According to Roberto Canessa’s interview, a hero of the Andes plane crash stated his memories “That was how we moved forward to our objective. What kept us strong was thinking about the next day “maybe tomorrow” was what kept us alive 72 days, “maybe tomorrow” we’ll get out of here, “maybe tomorrow” we’ll reach the summit, “maybe tomorrow” was our motive.” Patience is a crucial feature that helps to not lose hope, faith and mercy. It is also one of the virtues that I will intensively need to possess. Patience is largely needed especially in times of sorrow, discouragement, and anguish. If I don’t have patience in life, I will probably make decisions straightaway and this would lead to a more tangled situation. Dr. Canessa, also recalls the moment when he ate the flesh of one of the passengers dead body. It was hostile. Through the eyes of our enlightened society it was a nauseating choice. My respect was on the floor needing to get a bit of my dead companion and consume it keeping in mind the end goal to survive, yet then I thought about my mother and needed to try my hardest to return to see her.
