The American civil rights movement had many leaders fighting for equal rights for all. Though when we talk about civil rights one name seems to stand out, Martin Luther King, JR.. He was one of three boys of a Baptist minister in the south. At an early age he learned first hand how black and white were treated differently. One moment that stood out in Martin's childhood was when he and his teacher were coming home for a debating contest that he had won, on the bus ride home his teacher and he had to give up their seat on the bus for a white passenger and stand for the rest of the ride home.1 For the young Martin this was a life changing moment in his life.

Martin want equals right for all no matter the color of their skin or the culture background they may have come from. With his approach to fighting for equal right much like Mahatma Gandhi of a nonviolent protest to those who are opposing you and your human rights when India gain its independence for Great Britain in the 1940s. Martina looked up to people like Gandhi who would used the nonviolent protest way to standup for their rights and freedom from their oppressors, he slaw this as the right way of going about standing up for equals right here in America. Martin thought the best way to go about it getting equals right for everyone was in nonviolent protests and boycotts of businesses that used and supported to use of segregation and discrimination. Because if they would have used violent instead of nonviolent protest they would have gotten no where with their causes.
Other African Americans felt the same way and inspired Martin to pursue in his life work and calling in the fight for equal right for all. One on this people and moment during the civil right movement that inspired Martin was when Rosa parks refuses to give up her seat on the bus for a white passenger.
