If the vice president suggested that the IT department should bypass the initial steps and immediately get to work on her requests my response would depend on what the request is. If it’s a minor request then yes, I would probably skip it as it won’t be necessary. However, if it was a major request then I would say no. I wouldn’t feel comfortable not having a preliminary investigation before jumping straight into the request if it’s a big request that could cause major changes. Projects sometimes have things called dependent tasks. These tasks are dependent because they rely on another task to be completed before another task can begin. One advantage is that it can spawn new ideas and creativity that might not be thought of by asking each one individually. Another would be that it may improve the relationship between the people in the group. That’s about the only two advantages for group meetings as there are many downsides. The group may differentiate with their responses to the question and cause arguing and confusion within the group. Group meeting are much more time consuming when compared to interviews and questionnaires. Also getting the whole group to interact may be difficult as it sometimes will be two or three people really participating in the discussion while the others don’t do anything. That’s where questionnaires and interviews are better as it forces everyone to participate. So overall group meetings I would say are less beneficial in most situations unless you are just trying to brainstorm ideas. Apps and websites now have to adjust their designs to fit smaller screens such as on smartphones and tablets. A lot of app and website makers now design their own respected interfaces for those devices instead of bigger screens such as laptops and desktops. The reason for this is because it’s a lot easier to upscale a design rather than try to down scale it. Another main reason is almost everyone has a smartphone or tablet nowadays. Children are a great example to fit this description. Almost every kid has a smartphone by middle school as it holds a lot more value to them then let’s say their parents buying them a laptop. Also, most adults if they have a laptop or desktop at home its almost guaranteed that they have some sort of mobile device on them such as a smartphone.
