How does texting affect teen literacy Cell phones has became one of the necessities in todays life style for every teens. There is no arguing that students now a day text more than ever they even text more than calling. Teens text preferably there friends and call their parents and family. Phone bills show that on averages teens send and receive about 1800 text messages per month. The percentage of teens that had cell phones back then to now is a huge difference. This increase in text messaging had affected how students write formally. They may be properly taught on how to differentiate between formal and informal English but their homework and other work assignments show that they are using text messaging lingo to complete these assignments …show more content…

Anywhere you go, you find people of all ages glued to their mobile phone screens, fingers typing away. We see them in schools, on the sidewalks, in the cars, attending a classroom, sitting in a meeting or even eating at some restaurant. People are busier texting that they don't even see or acknowledge the people sitting right next to them physically. The biggest outcome of this, is the development of the so called“texting lingo. Various researches and case studies have been conducted by scholars and professors alike on this grappling issue, all over the world analysing both positive and negative effects of the same. They conclude that modern day children have grown up surrounded by mobile phones and text messaging all around them. Quite naturally they consider it to be an essential part of their everyday life. The high usage of text messaging amongst teens these days has therefore caught the attention of a wide number of research groups .Modern day children have grown up surrounded by mobile phones and text messaging all around them. It is a common belief in society, that there are three essentials for a peaceful existence of any human being, food, clothing and shelter. However, in the today's times this list has been expanded and turned everything around and this includes cell phones as well, under this very category of essentials. Right from an economically challenged vegetable vendor to a Grade X student who is yet to learn some of his/her life’s lessons there is one thing common amongst the mall; it’s possession of a cell phone. Cell Phones today have become the lifeline of almost all. Texting has many ill effects too on the society and their intensity is such that they cannot be simply ignored.
