Have you ever seen the Twilight Zone? Have you ever wondered what happened in the Holocaust? You will find out how the Twilight Zone and the Holocaust are similar. The teleplay is about a girl named Janet who is different from others. She has had 9 different surgeries and now she is done with her final surgery and now it is time to take the bandages off. When the doctor takes them off, he says there was no change at all. The doctors now put her in a place with her own kind. The Holocaust is about how the Nazi captures the Jewish because they are different because of their religion. The Nazi’s would kill the Jews if they were not capable of working for them. The Jews would be put into the gas chambers and they would die if they could not work. After they would die, they would take their bodies and put them into an oven for their ashes. In the teleplay, Janet just wants to belong with the other people. They think that it is all right to discriminate her just because of her facial looks. “ I want to be like the other people.” (pg 9)She thinks that she should be treated like the others and that everyone who has the same facial features as her should be treated equally too. In the article Nazi Racism, all the handicapped people or mentally ill people were killed because they could not work. The Jews were often humiliated in school because of their religion and what they looked like. Hitler had a plan and he wanted all of the Jews to be removed. He thought since they had a different religion than the others he wanted them all to be killed. He would kill anyone who was unable to work. All in all, it is unfair how people are treated. People have there owned right to do what they want. It does not mean you should discriminate
Of course these two horrible tragedies aren't entirely the same but in some similarities they do compare such as, how horrendous the SS guards treated the Jewish men and woman. They murdered innocent families and the ones who surrendered would be held captive in what they called Concentration Camps. Many Jewish families tried hiding and escaping during this time and some in the end were able to get to a safe area like Yang and her family. In the movie Schindlers List, it explains how many Jewish families hid their personal belongings such as necklaces, bracelets, rings by swallowing them or hiding them in food so the guards could not find them. At the start of Adolf Hitler’s reign of terror, no one would have been able to foresee what eventually led to the genocide of approximately six million Jews. However, steps can be traced to see how the Holocaust occurred. One of those steps would be the implementation of the ghetto system in Poland. This system allowed for Jews to be placed in overcrowded areas while Nazi officials figured out what to do with them permanently. During World War II there was event that lead to deaths of millions of innocent people. This even is known as the holocaust, millions of innocent people were killed violently, there was mass murders, rapes and horrific tortures. The question I will attempt to answer in the course of this paper is if the holocaust was a unique event in history. In my opinion there were other mass murders that people committed justified by the feeling of being threatened. But I don 't believe that any were as horrific and inhumane as Germany’s genocide of the Jewish people.
The Holocaust was a very impressionable period of time. It not only got media attention during that time, but movies, books, websites, and other forms of media still remember the Holocaust. In Richard Brietman’s article, “Lasting Effects of the Holocaust,” he reviews two books and one movie that were created to reflect the Holocaust (BREITMAN 11). He notes that the two books are very realistic and give historical facts and references to display the evils that were happening in concentration camps during the Holocaust. This shows that the atrocities that were committed during the Holocaust have not been forgotten. Through historical writings and records, the harshness and evil that created the Holocaust will live through centuries, so that it may not be repeated again (BREITMAN 14).
The Holocaust started in 1939. In that time period the Germans and the Allied Forces were in war. When they were in war the Germans took all Jews (except the ones in hiding) to multiple concentration camps and death camps. When they were sent to concentration camps they were ordered to take off all their jewelry, gold teeth and clothes. They were provided with stripped pajamas with numbers on them so they can be recognized by their number and not by their names. As early as age thirteen, we start learning about the Holocaust in classrooms and in textbooks. We learn that in the 1940s, the German Nazi party (led by Adolph Hitler) intentionally performed a mass genocide in order to try to breed a perfect population of human beings. Jews were the first peoples to be put into ghettos and eventually sent by train to concentration camps like Auschwitz and Buchenwald. At these places, each person was separated from their families and given a number. In essence, these people were no longer people at all; they were machines. An estimation of six million deaths resulting from the Holocaust has been recorded and is mourned by descendants of these people every day. There are, however, some individuals who claim that this horrific event never took place.
The holocaust was a catastrophic event that killed millions of innocent people and showed the world how inhuman mankind can be. This dark period in world history demonstrated unmatched violence and cruelty towards the Jewish race that led toward genocide. Genocide did not begin with the Holocaust; nor was it a spontaneous event. Many warning signs within world events helped provide Germany and Adolf Hitler the foundation to carry out increasing levels of human depravity (Mission Statement). These warning signs during the Holocaust include; Anti-Semitism, Hitler Youth, Racial profiling, the Ghettos, Lodz, Crystal Night, Pogroms, and Deportation. However, their exposure comes too late for the world to help prevent the horrors of the Holocaust. For example, Anti-Semitism was never put into reality until the holocaust overcame the attitudes of its’ German Citizens. It also provided the driving force behind the education of the Hitler youth. Hitler’s persuasive characteristics consumed the people into believing all of his beliefs. This is how racial profiling came about; Hitler made it so that the Germans had the mindset that Jews were horrible, filthy, people that did not deserve to live like the Germans or have the same luxuries. As a result, they moved all the Jews into one secluded area away from the German citizens; an area called the Ghettos. One of these Ghettos was the town of Lodz, who kept meticulous historical records of everything that went on in the city. However, it was not a safe for Jews; never feeling at ease not knowing the uncertainties or dangers lying ahead. The book Night by Ellie Wiesel portrays the vigorous journey Wiesel and his family undergo throughout this torturous time. The holocaust wasn’t just genocide against the Jews; it was also a long process of dehumanizing them too. Their valuables were taken and their heads were shaved stripping them of their identity.
The Holocaust was a time in history that was brutal, sickening, and ruthless. Concentration camps were introduced as harsh, uncleanness living camps and a very important feature of the regime. The word “Holocaust”, was originated from the words “Holos” meaning whole, and “kaustos” meaning burned. To Adolf Hitler, Jews were an “inferior” race. After years of Nazi rule, Hitler’s “final solution” came under the cover of world war, with mass killing centers constructed in the concentration camps. Jews, Jehovah's Witnesses, Roma Gypsies, Priests and Pastors, homosexuals, and black children were all victims of the holocaust. Most of the victims left were from other countries. 6,000 Jehovah's witnesses, over 15,00 homosexuals, 400 “colored” children, and over 5,000,000 jews were killed.
