There are many factors that contribute to teen suicide. In Hamlet by William Shakespeare, suicide is portrayed in the main characters’ thoughts and actions. Family matters, such as distrust and losing loved ones, and responsibilities often led teens to different stage of emotions which can led to suicide. Suicides in Hamlet are caused by the pressure of family dynamics and teen responsibilities.

As the subject of teenagers in suicide in Hamlet, the family dynamics played a large part to the main characters. Hamlet was disturbed by the death of his father and was even more disturbed with his mother being remarried to his uncle so quickly. The changes of the family relationships generated the idea of suicide in Hamlet’s mind, “The general thought of death, intimately related to the predominating human theme, the pain in Hamlet’s mind, is thus suffused through the whole play” (Shakespeare and Cyrus). But this article proves otherwise, “Someone may be more likely to attempt suicide if they have a mental health disorder” (Kahn). This article displays that mental health disorder are more likely the key that trigger a person to commit suicide than family matters. But the main characters in Hamlet that were involve with the idea of suicide were stressed with recent situations in the family. A daughter in depression and a son in madness of their own father’s death. Especially for Hamlet, “The play makes it amply clear that Hamlet’s gloomy state of mind is not an old complaint but something brought on by recent events (Bloom)”.
