This paper discusses various issues regarding the rise in teen domestic violence and its prevention. Parents play a major role in making sure that their teens understand what its like to be in a healthy relationship. People that face domestic violence should report the incident or speak to someone if they are in fear of their life. No one deserves to be physically and emotionally bullied. Learning ways to resolve conflict can reduce issues of domestic violence. We all deserve the love and respect that we try to give others freely.

10% of teens in America experience a form of domestic violence in their relationship in the form of pushes, slaps, kicks and punches. Many teens do not view the domestic violence that occurs at home, the same as the violence that occurs within their relationships. The researchers in the article “Youth Experiences of Family Violence and Teen Dating Violence Perpetration: Cognitive and Emotional Mediators” come up with methods on how to evaluate whom these teens are committing these acts of violence. So far no conclusion is made. Accountability in teenage dating violence: A comparative examination of adult domestic violence and juvenile justice systems policies. The juvenile justice system rarely acknowledges dating violence amongst teens. One of the reasons teen-dating violence continues at a high rate is because of the lack of justice and trust in the system. The United States is still developing systems that are helping victims of domestic violence. The constitution does not fully support systems that help victims of domestic violence because it tries not to involve itself with the private lives of the people. There are three mediators between childhood maltreatment and dating violence with teens. Trauma-related symptoms, attitudes justifying dating violence, and empathy and self-efficacy in dating violence are the mediators. Teens are able to watch shows like Jerry springer and watch movies like the old movie called baby boy and believe that maladaptive behaviors in a relationship are normal because that’s the only example of a relationship that they are able to observe. Most teens come from homes where they have parents who are divorced or some teens were adopted and never lived in a stable home to understand that abuse is not a normal part of a relationship. Being a victim of domestic violence causes some teens to believe that the violence their experiencing within their dating relationship is normal. Teens maybe in a vulnerable state of mind; Looking for acceptance so they accept the unhealthy relationship with the violence. Teens also try to look “cool” in front of their friends so they may act aggressively towards their partner to make them look like they are the ones in control of the relationship. Most teens feel being in a relationship at their age is an accomplishment. While social media is not the main culprit of teens developing maladaptive behaviors and bring them into their relationships, it is partly responsible. Emotional abusers are relentless and manipulative. Children learn what they see, so a child that has been raised around abuse has a high chance of becoming abusive.
