My experience with this technology has been very interesting. Growing up I didn 't use technology alot since I spent more of my time outside or reading. I didn’t not really have a smart phone until my senior year of high school, so it didn’t play that big of a factor in my life. When I did get a Smartphone it wasn’t a big deal to me I treated it the same way that I treated my other phone. To me it was nothing special and I felt there was better things to do. Application is probably the reason that I use my phone so much, it helps me with my everyday taks. Like when I wake up in the morning the first thing that I check the weather and my email to see if I have gotten any important message and what I should wear that day. When I need to go somewhere new I use GPS to help me get there. Social media apps also play a huge part because I am always plugged in and I can always see what people are up to and doing. I probably check them multiple time through the days, and it can become a distraction sometime , when your so connected to your phone. It makes you procrastinate on a lot of things like you may push your homework aside because you got distracted by your phone. Also you can get sucked into the interconnectedness online that you forget about the really world in front of you. The cell phone is a great thing. Did you know that about 90% of the population owns a cell phone(Madrigal, Alexis C)? Our society is affected greatly by the use of cellphones in such ways as; sleep deprivation, communication, and Distraction. There are many things that the cell phone is good for but there are just as many negatives that come from them, if not there are more. There are many reasons why people choose to use cell phones. It makes it easier to access social media sites, gives in to impulsivity, the need to belong, and boosts self-esteem. Most teenagers find cell phones critical to preserving their social lives and staying in touch (Abel 102). Cell phones are also quite useful for things like companionship, seeking information, making appointments, mobility, fashion, and immediate access. They help people feel like they belong by providing frequent social interactions, thus avoiding loneliness.
It is interesting to note that an article written in 2003 discussed text messaging as a young adult phenomenon. It addressed the difficulty of older fingers using tiny keyboards (Lacoheé 206). Things have changed. Text messaging is used by young and old alike today. Interestingly, other predictions in the article, which was written over ten years ago, still haven’t happened yet such as video tattoos and smart make-up and perfume (Lacoheé 209).What is clear is that we are living in a world that is ever-changing and with those changes come implications for how we behave as individuals and as a society. The concept of communicating through a telephone was developed in the 1870s. Devices to transmit speech electrically were designed by Elisha Gray and Alexander Graham Bell, but Bell's design was patented first. On March 10, 1876, Alexander Graham Bell achieved one of his greatest successes in the making of the telephone. This brought upon a major change in communication and gave leeway to the improvement of the telephone in the days to come (Bellis, 2013b). During the 20th century there were many innovations regarding the telephone. In 1973, the first call from a portable phone was made Martin Cooper, who was a Motorola researcher and executive at the time. Since its inception, the advancement of cell phones has been exponential (Bellis, 2013a). As a result, cell phones have changed how society works in today's world. Many people lack the insight of how cell phones, or in this case, smart phones, affect the people that use them. So the question is, how is the evolution of smart phones impacting our society?

On these new phones, we can connect with our friends or family on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Technology has also developed Skype, a place you can talk with people on the computer with instant voice and video for hours. The notion that the cell phone may one day become obsolete may never become reality. The concept of personal computing and communication (which is essentially what the smartphone is today) can never be defunct. Humans are built to connect with one another and we see instances of this throughout our lifetime. We are born into families, biological or not. We go to church to gather with our congregation. Like the rest of the world, I cannot go a day without my phone. Try leaving your phone at home for a day and let me know how you feel. With the growing technology my phone is like my arms and legs. It is my must- have- can’t live without phone. It is my connection to the outside world. It is my connection to other people’s lives and theirs to connect with mine. The “cell phone” started out as a form of communication via calling and then it exploded with text messaging. Now it seems that most people would prefer texting then calling someone.
