I feel the technological advances we have today are bad for humanity. I believe so because a number of inventions such as cellphones, televisions, and iPods are what causes a multitude of people to be isolated from others. For example, because they are alarmingly immersed in their own little world, a lot of people nowadays prefer to text or instant message a friend who is in the same room as them rather than speak to that person. This type of behavior contributes to the lack of social skills amongst the general populace which is responsible for the loss of the ability to read facial expressions and other forms of body language. Another reason why I believe the technological advances we have today are bad for humanity is because people develop addictions to inventions which would not have been created if it had not been for such progress. People are reliant on devices like their cellphones to the point where they are incapable of functioning in a normal way without them. At home, I spend most of my time either typing up homework on Notes or playing games on my iPad. Because I am on my iPad for a considerable amount of time every day, I am being exposed to blue light which impacts my health in a rather negative fashion. Blue light is so harmful towards me because this type of light is responsible for my not being able to sleep as peacefully as I would like. Since our bodies associate this color of light with daytime, blue light is able to overpower a hormone by the name of melatonin whose job is to help regulate an individual's sleep when released into the bloodstream. Therefore, my mind each night is just as active it was during the day which, much to my annoyance, renders me not only incapable of falling asleep as soon as get in bed, but staying asleep for a long period of
