I am a dedicated, self-motivated and hardworking individual. I am an excellent team worker and have good interpersonal skills and am very eager to learn and develop new skills. My goal is to find an opportunity for working in a dynamic environment where I can use my skills and abilities that offers professional growth while being resourceful, innovative and flexible.
I am interested in obtaining my masters degree in the field of social work because I am passionate about issues of equality and fairness, and want to be in a position to help out in this area in a constructive and meaningful way. Social workers have the ability to make direct, beneficial changes in people’s lives, often the people who need it the most. It may rarely be world-changing on a macro level, but social work, when done right, can have world changing effects, for the better, on the people it touches.
My co-workers have described me as someone who is immensely helpful, intelligent, outgoing and an effective communicator. All of these qualities combined with my work experience will assist me in the completion of my graduate degree. Social Work is work carried out by trained personnel with the aim of alleviating the conditions of those in need of help or welfare.
My interest in medicine began the first time I (intentionally) held lethal bacteria. Mycobacterium marinum causes incurable granulomas in zebrafish. To me, however, this microbe also represents a vital step in my career path. Prior to studying M. marinum, I captured phages without testing their therapeutic potential. M. marinum thus provides my first chance to treat a disease in vivo.
I have been voiceless and silenced for eighteen years of my life. My entire childhood consisted of me getting abused and not being able to speak up without getting shut down. I grew up making friends that suffered from addictions or got in trouble a lot, they were also voiceless. Watching my friends grow up and fall deeper into the grasp of their addiction was heartbreaking, no one would listen to them. No one would look past their actions to find out what was causing them to turn to drugs or alcohol, they were only the "problem kids." Ever since I have always been driven to help individuals acquire safety and advice. I am driven to be in a position that lets me help people who are in similar situations, which is why I want to go into the addictions
I have been involved in 4-H since I was in the fourth grade. Today, I am still very involved. I show dairy cattle every year at the Clinton County Fair, Mississippi Valley Fair, and the Iowa State Fair. As well as showing in an open show called the Youth Dairy Classic through the Jr. Brown Swiss Association that I belong to. Through 4-H I have also participated in our annual fruit sales, helping put up and take down Christmas lights, paint the barns and help with restoration of them. I also helped at a cancer benefit of one of our 4-H families. To me, 4-H has helped me become a leader, I was recently in charge of the Entertainment Committee as well as being the Historian officer. My family is also very involved with 4-H, my father is on the Clinton County Fair Board, and both of my brothers and sister in law are Associate Fair Board members. Also my mother and father and grandmother were all 4-H leaders for years. I hope to follow in their footsteps and be a Fair Board member myself and one day help the fair board make important decisions too. This has impacted my life in a positive way and I hope to continue the generation.
My interest in becoming a social worker started at a very young age. I remember always possessing the desire to help people who were in need and have frequently being the person who others have approached when faced with difficult situations. Often, I felt as if listening was not enough. I remember feeling unequipped to help them. When I spoke about this career choice with some of the big influences in my personal life, I was told no matter what situation I have ever been faced with I have always managed to handle myself appropriately in what were, sometimes, delicate situations. I have spent much of my college career working with people who need a hand up instead of working on namable honors. I enjoy volunteering, taking on difficult tasks and schedules, and being involved behind the scenes of good things. My largest interest is learning and I dedicate most of my time to it. I attend every training, seminar, and presentation I can because I believe that knowledge is power. I am preparing to be well-rounded, well prepared, well educated, and professional in my field. I have faced challenges that could have stopped me from ever coming this far in my education and in my life plans, but I have pushed myself past anything life has thrown at me. I have gone far above and beyond what was required of me to just get by,
I care very much about my life as a whole and want it to flourish to great extent. I have always been a very career-oriented person and my future is what is most important to me. I am willing to do whatever it takes to strive. I am willing to work hard and struggle towards my goal, no matter how difficult the feat.
I am 19 years old and have lived in Red Bluff all my life. I am currently working at Raley's where I will have been working for three years this May. I am a very motivated, and kind individual. I am driven, and passionate about things I am truly interested and invested in. Some of those things include school, reading, and my personal health. In my junior year of high school, I took a class through the Young Scholars program and got three units of college credit. Then the next year, my senior year, I participated in the College Connection program which was the 16-17 school year. After finishing the program, I received a total of twenty college credits. I then decided to take a total of seven units that following summer. I am now on track
I participate in various extracurricular activities. Since the age of 4, I’ve played piano and have greatly enjoyed it; over the past 6 months I took a break to pursue softball and tennis but I plan to resume it soon. I am currently the President of FRMS’s NJHS chapter. I enjoy spending time with my family through hiking and biking. I am also a dedicated Chicago Cubs and Chicago Blackhawks fan and enjoy watching their games with my family (Please don’t hold this against me). Since the age of 9 I’ve played softball and I hope to play in high school. I started tennis about 7 months ago and, with the exception of December, dedicate at least 6 hours a week of practice. When I was in highschool I had the opportunity to volunteer as part of the Gregg County Museum Board of Student Directors the year before I started at UT. As part of this organization I was able to help organize museum activities, gain experience in museum curation, and see the impact of engagement, outreach, and public education within my community. This experience along with the skills and insights I gained from it helped me direct my interests in history and humanities when I came to UT. Having seen the impact that a museum, its initiatives, and volunteers could have, even while being a small museum in a rural area, I started to think about how I could pursue my passions in liberal arts and contribute valuable community service at the same time.
Academically, I have always been a very committed and determined student, willing to go beyond
