Tap dance is music made from the feet of a person, using the heels and toes of the foot with metal plates screwed onto the bottom of the shoe to make a louder noise. Tap dancing becomes natural to a person. People will be sitting down tapping their foot to music and they don’t even know they’re tap dancing. There are many types of tap dance that require different techniques and different shoes that goes better with each style.
The different styles of tap dance collaborates with the music. For an example jazz tap is basically performed with jazz bands and swing music. It was popular during the “Jazz Age.” Jazz tap is harder than all the other styles to learn. It takes more time and techniques, it is very fast paced.

He teamed up with Buck Washington, they were known as “Bubbles and Buck.” While bubbles tap danced, Buck would sing and play stride piano. Rhythm Tap had died down after John W. Bubbles but Gregory Hines brought back his style later on.
The Hoofing tap dance style focuses on the stamps and stomps in tap dance. It is dance with rhythmic percussion of the music. People who do the tap dance style Hoofing are often known as hoofers. A well-known contemporary hoofer is Savion Glover, he is mainly known for his quote, “Tap Dance is a dance style, while Hoofing is a lifestyle (Human Kinetics).”
Funk Tap is all about the fun in tap dance. It is attracted more by this generation. It is combined with Hip Hop and Funk. While keeping the traditional tap techniques, funk tap just adds a little “flavor” to it.
