A kidney stone is a solid substance that forms inside the kidney due to elevated levels of particular substances that are present in the urine. When they remain in the urine they usually cause no harm, although when this stone remains in the kidney or the kidney tract, it may become painful and dangerous. These stones are usually brown or yellow and can be all different sizes and shapes , from the size of a grain of rice, or as large as golf ball; being very smooth or rugged. There are several symptoms that may indicate that you have a kidney stone such as bloody urine, pain while urinating, a fever with chills, urine that smells or is cloudy, or sharp pain in lower abdomen or back. These symptoms may continue for an extended or …show more content…
Most likely, if a kidney stone is causing blockage in the urinary tract, the person will need treatment. The majority of the kidney stones are small so they are left untreated and the person must wait for them to pass and a pain medication will be prescribed. One way someone could assist the stone in passing is by drinking a lot of water to help move the stone through the urinary tract, and if unable to drink due to vomiting, then it would be suggested that the person go to the hospital in order to get fluids through an IV. Your urologist can remove the kidney stone and break the stone into smaller pieces if the stone is large and the urinary tract is blocked with treatments such as shock wave lithotripsy and an ureteroscopy. In shock wave lithotripsy, a shock wave machine is used to break the kidney stone and then the small pieces that break off allowing them to pass through the UT. In an ureteroscopy, an uteroscope is used, which is a long tubular tool including an eyepiece, is used to locate the stone and fed up through the urethra and into the bladder ending in the ureter. Once the stone is located, the urologist can then break the stone using laser energy. Another procedure used to remove a kidney stone is a percutaneous nephrolithotomy, in which a wire-thin tool is used, a nephroscope, to locate the stone and remove it, feeding it right into the kidney through an incision made in the

A kidney stone or crystal forms when the urine is supersaturated in regard to a stone forming material, meaning the urine contains a higher concentration of stone material than it can dissolve. There are several factors that can contribute to supersaturation, such as urine volume, pH, and the amount of solute excretion (Worcester and Coe 2009). There are numerous types of stones that can form depending on what material in the urine is in excess. The most common types of stones are calcium kidney stones with calcium oxalate (CaOx) causing 80% of all calcium stones and calcium phosphate (CaP) causing 15% of calcium stones (Sakhaee et al. 2012). Calcium oxalate stones are usually found in patients as white deposits on their papillae, or Randall’s plaques. The stone begins as a deposit of calciu...
Considering the experiments that has been carried out on the stone and tracing this back to the goal of this investigation, which was to see if there is any scientific explanation to why home remedy could be considered to be endorsed as a remedy for the kidney stones. Summing up all that was seen in the experiment, the home remedy like the lemon juice, vinegar, Ginger ale can be said to be good way to decrease the sizes of the kidney stones so as to allow it to be decreased by having some of it being passed out through the urinary tract and to also help reduce the pain (cramps) at the back that may be caused by the kidney stones.
Urinary Tract Infection, also known as UTI, occurs in two common locations, the bladder and kidneys. The kidneys are important organs that aid in filtering out waste products from blood and maintaining water distribution throughout the body. The waste products are filtered out via bladder, which is the reason of the bladder being the second site for the infection. A normal human being has two kidneys, one on left and right side, a bean shaped organ, and is located at the back of the abdomen. “Each kidney is about 11.5 cm long, 5-7.5 cm broad, 5 cm thick, and weight about 150 grams” (HealthInfoNet, Paragraph 2). Furthermore, a bacterium named Escherichia coli lives in both the kidneys and the GI tract. E. coli is part of the human body and produces
Urolithiasis is the process of forming stones in the kidney, bladder, and/or urinary tract.1 1,200 to 1,400 per 100,000 people will develop a urinary stone each year. Urinary stones are formed when there is a decrease in urine volume or an excess of stone forming substances are present. The use of diagnostic imaging plays a vital role in the diagnostic and treatment processes of a stone in the urinary track. This paper will discuss the signs, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of Urolithiasis.
This article is for people whose kidneys fail to work. This condition is called end-stage renal disease (ESRD).
In Swallowing Stones, the Fourth of July is a magical holiday all over our country, and a lot of people love to shoot off their guns to celebrate. Michael Mackenzie shoots off his new rifle into the air thinking nothing of it; Suddenly, four blocks away, Charlie Ward looks down at his daughter then collapses. However, In The Wave, Gordon High School has a teacher who takes his authority way too far in an experiment with his students that turns the whole school. This now gives Laurie Saunders a choice, stay true to herself, or do what everyone else is doing. However, The Wave doesn’t happen everyday, accidental shootings do. High school is a very tricky time, and students have so much to learn, especially about life. Also, they do not know enough

The Rolling Stones are one of the most well known hard rock bands. They have a distinctive history that separates them from other similar rock bands. Their unique sound formed the basis of rock and roll. The band had a huge influence on British music through things such as their fashion, fusion of obscure genres, and attitude. Over the course of the last fifty years, The Rolling Stones unique history, sound, and overall look still has an influence on modern British bands.
If the kidney stone is larger than 1/4 inch in diameter it will most likely
A urinary tract infection is a very common infection that can happen to anybody. A urinary tract infection usually occurs when bacteria enters the urethra and multiples in the urinary system. The Urinary tract includes the kidneys, the thin tubes that carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder (ureters), and the main tube that carries the urine from the bladder (urethra). Women, men, and children are all immune to this infection. Women have the highest chances of getting it. In the Urinary tract, the main links of the ureters help get rid of any bacteria that tries to enter the urine, and the bladder helps prevent urine from backing up into the kidneys.
Your kidneys play a very important role in helping your body function properly. The kidneys help your body pass waste as urine and helps filter blood before it’s sent back to the heart. Kidneys are two bean shaped organs that are about the size of a fist. Most people have two kidneys that are located just below the spine, one on each side of the spine. Your kidneys perform many vital functions for your body. They produce hormones that help produce red blood cells, regulates blood pressure, and promotes healthy bones. Even though they play such a big role, it is possible to only live with one kidney. There are many illnesses that impairs the functioning of the kidneys, one of them is Acute kidney injury.
From the kidneys, urine travels down two thin tubes called ureters to the bladder. The ureters are about 8 to 10 inches (200 to 250 mm) long. Muscles in the ureter walls constantly tighten and relax to force urine downward away from the kidneys. If urine is allowed to stand still, or back up, a kidney infection can develop. Small amounts of urine are emptied into the bladder from the ureters about every 10 to 15 seconds.
The purpose of this paper is to take an in depth look at a renal diet which is designed for people suffering from certain kidney conditions. A renal diet can be described as a nutritional regime which is: “low in sodium, phosphorous and protein... [It] also promotes the importance of consuming high-quality protein and usually limits fluids. Some patients may also need to limit potassium and even calcium” (Nephcure). Throughout the course of this paper various aspects are addressed. these include: the role of the kidneys, the importance of professional guidance, the reasons why people follow a renal diet, monitoring sodium intake, monitoring potassium intake, monitoring phosphorus intake, protein consumption, and fluid control.
...people who eat a lot of protein and people who get kidney stones. Another link between peoples diets and kidney stones is salt. Eating too much salt increases the amount of calcium in our urine which in turn makes the risk of a kidney stone develop increase. Not only is it what we eat but also the amount that we eat. If we eat our portions in moderation and eat the right things, we will have less of a chance of developing kidney stones.
