The Tagic Fate In Shakespeare’s Macbeth, the ambition of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth causes their relationship to change with a pool of bloody guilt that destroys the whole play and seals their fate. First of all the realtionship between Lady Macbeth and Macbeth changes drastically. For instance, in the begining of the play Lady Macbeth and Macbeth are in love. “my dearest love, duncan comes here tonight” (1.5.59-60). When Macbeth sees his wife he calls her his love and is gentle towards her. Closer to the end of the play his mood changes for her in a way we didn’t expect mainly because of his new power. This can be clearly seen when a messenger tells Macbeth that his wife is dead. “ she should have died here after. There would have been time for such a word” (5.5.18-19). He does not show any remorse for Lady Macbeth. The power he gains from his ambition makes him over confident and selfish. This makes other peoples emotions irrelevant to him. …show more content…

For instance, when Macbeth kills the king he is automatically thrown into a panic. Macbeth states, “ The voice kept crying, “sleep no more!”” (2.2.23). Lady Macbeth then replies, “My hands are of your color, but I shame to wear a heart so white” (2.2.61-62). The guilt already fills him and lady macbeth describes how he needs to act like her because the blood is on her hands too but she is calm. Later in the play guilt is shifted from Macbeth to Lady Macbeth. Macbeth’s ambition takes a toll on her because she cant tell anyone their secrets. “Out, damned spot, out, I say!” (5.1.37). She knows of the blood that is on her hands and desprately tries to wash her hands. The power of Lady Macbeth causes Macbeth to do things he doesnt want to do and when Macbeth can feel comfortable doing his own bad things that’s when it effects
