Morality and survival play hand in hand, and most of the time they get in each other’s way. The situations that call for you to choose between the two also come with certain circumstances like family, taking someone else’s life, or protecting those around you. Whether it be in the dystopian worlds of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and Divergent by Veronica Roth or real life situations. Your morals will either get in the way or go with your choice of surviving. When it comes to survival a choice has to be made, this decision is usually involved with one’s morals. It works, she receives soup and medicine that eventually helps Peeta recover. When it comes to the end of the games there are beasts that enter the game hunting down the remainder of the participants, forcing them towards the middle of the arena. It finally comes down to the last two districts Katniss and Peeta have to work together to eliminate the last district. The only problem is that neither of them are killers and don’t have the stomach for it. This is a problem because the other district’s participant is a killer, and in fact he’s killed the most and seems like an undefeatable foe to them. Katniss instead of choosing to kill him with her own hands and feeling guilty for the rest of her life she knocks him off the platform and he falls down to where the beasts are at and the beasts kill him. The choices she makes are influence by her will to survive and go home to her sister.The divergent series is somewhat similar to the hunger games series in a perspective, the main character Beatrice has to make tough decisions to make sure she survives in a dystopian world. It all starts with the aptitude test, this test basically says what faction you qualify for. There are a total of five factions and some factions are better than the others. She can either stay with her family or move to a better faction and abandon them. ”I stare into my own eyes for a moment. Today is the day of the aptitude test that will show me which of the five factions I belong in. And tomorrow, at the Choosing Ceremony, I will decide on a faction; I will decide the rest of my life; I will decide to stay with my family or abandon them.” (Page 1, Chapter 1).
