During the 1920s, Metropolis was considered a place “where the new was in constant state of emergence” (Graf 2007, 89).Filmmakers were looking for creating a new experimental work that feature and document city life; they wanted to capture something of city spirit, using a new medium. City symphony film, a new genre of Avant- grade films emerged in this period, taking its inspiration from the city itself and trying to capture its life from” dawn to dusk”. The idea of city symphony films dates back to 1921, when Charles Sheeler and Paul Strand presented an abstract study of New York City in their film Manhatta. This film established the main feature of city symphony tradition, the dawn to dusk format which became a standard feature of city symphonies
Verizon's CEO projects the TV Bundle will die out in the next 3 to 5 years stating that one study found that the average TV bundle contains 189 but viewers only utilize 17 of those. Based on the habits of viewers today and the predictions of those habits in the near future Verizon is hoping to capture a large portion of the digital media scene by releasing a product called Go90. The mobile application allows the user to stream personalized content directly to their wireless device (Lowell on CNBC, 2015). Being able to tailor content this way is important to the target millennial market according to studies by Verizon that found one of the key aspects millennials look for in a company is that their product is made “for me” (4Q Results, 2016 ). This move is something that makes Verizon unique in their industry as a wireless provider. The choice to produce this type of mobile application is also renewable. The data provided by users as they navigate through the application immediately becomes part of Verizon's database allowing the company to predict what users want to see in the future much like Netflix is so well known for today (Davenport & Harris, 2007). The app requires the use of mobile data and streaming video increases consumer consumption of data, another Verizon product. Go90 also allows Verizon to sell advertising space and strategically place ads in a way
The snow flutter towards the ground, the doorstep of the ‘Ministry of Sound’ nightclub. Despite its Christmas card and angelic appearance, with it brought a bitter and frigid chill that penetrates the insides of the crowd that waits. The red faced group shiver as they wrap themselves in their thick winter coats. Full of excitement, the fans stand on their tiptoes, anticipating their entry to the music venue. A large man, presumably the bouncer, wearing a black formal suit and an ID strapped on his muscular arm, slowly marches alongside the swarm of inpatient men and women, taking a deep breath with every stride. With every eager fan he passes, he gazes at them, with a hint of scrutiny and suspicion. ‘Ticket’ - the only word the bouncer says, as he examines and verifies the authenticity of the fans’ pass to enter. One by one the long snaking queue shorten as the groupies slowly gain entry.
When a person gets into a car, one of the first things they do is turn on the radio. Some people like the volume turned down real low and others like myself want loud blaring music. There are several steps to turn a factory sound system into a surround sound theatre.
It can be difficult to re-create the experience of going to the movie theater. However, home theaters and in-home entertainment has become more popular as online streaming has taken a precedence in the industry.
Hegel once described hearing and seeing as two rational senses working together to give us the complex picture. While sight permits to perceive the object only as a surface without depth, hearing allows to overcome distance between the subject and the object. In 1929, Weimar director Fritz Lang, the author of renowned Metropolis, “scoffed loudly and publicly at the very concept of the sound film”. However,
