What does American made mean? Not American made manufactory like Chrysler, but to actually be an American. American, a commonly used word, but difficult to define. The Super Bowl historically represents American culture every year. Although the ratings for the NFL in general have slowly declined and this years Super Bowl had the least amount of views since 2009, the Super Bowl was still the “10th most watched show in television history.” All in all, a few words that define an American are diversity, unity, and complex, and the Super Bowl displays this in most Americans and our culture. America, the land of the free and the home of the free. Everyone has freedom, which makes America so special and unique. The Super Bowl displays this every year. Even if you do not like football at all, people still come together for the super bowl because Americans just do that. Diversity can sometimes lead to separation, but to have a majority of the country come together one night for a football game, truly remarkable. According to Sports Illustrated, Nine out of the top ten “Most watched shows in television history” come from the Super Bowl. This automatically shows that the Super Bowl unites the country. This year’s Super Bowl ratings were the lowest in the past nine years, and still had approximately “103.4 million television viewers”. Even though fans divide when it comes to which team they want to win, this still shows unity. Look at the city of Philadelphia. “This year was the first time the Philadelphia Eagles won a Super Bowl since 1960,” and the championship was not even called the Super Bowl then. This brought the city of Philadelphia together tremendously. Hundreds of thousands of people rushed the streets of Philadelphia to celebrate their win.
