Resolve Through Sharing® is a program within the Bereavement and Advanced Care Planning Department of Gundersen Health System. RTS began in 1981 delivering bereavement education to healthcare professionals involved in caring for mothers who experience perinatal loss. The most popular offering in the program’s portfolio, is the three day bereavement training conference. Through a co-sponsorship arrangement, RTS partners with requesting healthcare facilities to bring the conference to their location. Through this arrangement, the co-sponsor absorbs some of the overhead costs, thus increasing our revenue potential. The project scope looks specifically at the RTS annual National Bereavement Education conference hosted at its home location in LaCrosse, …show more content…
The scope statement suggests that moving the conference to a major city will directly address all three challenges. Hosting the conference in a large; major city, offers multiple convenient, less expensive travel options which in turn offer scheduling flexibility. The participant would not require as much work time for travel. This also makes it easier for the healthcare facility to provide coverage for the employee while they attend a two or three day conference. While funding for additional training continues to be a lower priority for healthcare organizations, smaller amounts requested per employee are more attractive when submitted for approval. These factors should collectively translate to higher participant numbers and …show more content…
The theory of hosting this conference on location looks good on paper. However, the considerable increase in overhead costs forces me to quickly pose the question, “Can we afford to take this risk and absorb the extra expense?” In processing answers to that question, I changed my proposal from potentially hosting three conferences on location next year to one. Taking on multiple conferences would be too far outside of the scope of the immediate need that exists. Being introduced to what scope management plans entail, opened my eyes to the level of research and evaluation that would be required before a decision to host the conference on location could be made. The additional time needed for preparation coupled with maintaining the flow of day to day operations, runs the risk of overextending the team’s resource capacity. In my proposal, I would introduce a scope management plan as leverage to offer more assurance that the project would stay contained and
I have had the privilege to walk alongside many people on their grief journeys. Throughout my thirty years of assisting others, I have developed a model of grief processing I call the Berafian Model. This model allows me an opportunity to work with various ages as well as cultural backgrounds.
Second, the facility should also be able to have meal plans for this group, preferably at least 3 meals a day. Another must haves are meeting rooms, a convention center in the facility or nearby This is definitely a necessity since the whole reason why they would be there is to have their regional meeting. One last need/ expectation is group transportation. This is to help them ...

Although, project 4031 fulfills wishes for terminally ill clients, they are not always informed when a client has passed away. Therefore, we had to revised knowledge goal 1 to instead prepare Project 4031 for future bereavement phone calls. Knowledge Goal 1 was revised once I was nearing the end of my internship at Project 4031. Instead of learning the communication strategies I had hoped for, what I did instead was write up a document for Project 4031 to have and look at when they are making their bereavement phone calls. The document is a form to have for future volunteers or the staff to use while they make the bereavement phone calls. I got all the information from the bereavement class at Community Hospice, local grief support groups,
Grieving is the outward expression of your loss. Every individual grief is likely to be expressed physically, emotionally, and psychologically. For instance, crying is a physical expression, while depression is a psychological expression. It is very important to allow the client to express these feelings. Often, death is a subject that is avoided, ignored or denied. At first it may be helpful
In the article, “The Internet: A tool to Normalize grief”; Sally Dominick and Blair Irvine explain to their readers that there has been over 60 years of research documentation that include examples of physical and cognitive reaction as well as negative and affective reactions-sadness and the experience of relief and emancipation. With all this at hand, behav...
Study Purpose The purpose of this research study was to develop a communication strategy for family members of patients dying in the ICU by evaluating a format consisting of a proactive end-of-life conference and brochure to see whether the intervention could minimize the effects of bereavement for the families left behind. This research provided the family members with more opportunities to discuss the patient wishes, to express emotions, to alleviate feelings of guilt, and to understand the goals of care. Research Hypothesis and Research Questions Here researchers evaluate the effect of a proactive communication strategy that consisted of an end-of life family conference conducted according to specific guidelines and that concluded with the provision of a brochure on bereavement....

Getting to host the Olympics is a game in itself. It begins ten years before the opening ceremonies and cities must compete nationally to represent their country as a candidate. Local committees are run by private business interests that stand to gain from the construction and tourism brought in with the events. Financial management and good preparation are important in establishing a successful Olympic event. It is necessary to separate short-term effects from l...
...dy by Wong, Crawford, Gask & Grinyer (2003) identified several themes of attitudes and expectations of patients from health care professionals and determined that major deficiencies and inconsistencies exist regarding in-hospital and follow-up care for women who have experienced a perinatal death. While some health care facilities have adopted formal practice guidelines regarding management of perinatal death patients, there is a wide variance observed in the research regarding consistency of care and best practices. Health care professionals, particularly nurses, are in a unique position to offer support and assistance to patients who are going through the experience and subsequent emotional difficulties. Given the proper support and tools to decrease anxiety, many women can go on to experience a positive pregnancy outcome with subsequent pregnancies (Lamb, 2002).
Being able to talk to a grieving family is a skill that requires basic knowledge that is developed over time. With that being said, in speech class there was an emphasis on good communication, or as it is called in nursing school, therapeutic communication. The information we learned in speech was meant to teach us how to talk to people and truly comprehend what they are saying or learn to ask for clarification. I have learned in class and in clinical that proper communication can affect a patient’s care tremendously. It can affect how they feel about their disease and being hospitalized as well as how they take care of themselves
...y” (Higham, 1999, p. 89). Higham makes a good point. If planning is not done strategically and based off of a designated area's characteristics, then it is likely that the outcome will be unsuccessful or even negative. Not all cities are cut out to host, and some need to evaluate when the time is right to host. A fantastic example of timing and it's importance, is the bid for the 2010 World Cup. When South Africa bid in 2004 for host of the 2010 cup, they received the results that changed the host and it's people's lives in such a positive way. The news kick started a six year path to national reconstruction. Not only that, but it isolated the nation from the economic down turn from 2008-2009 because the pre-funded, and pre-committed preparations for the event were already underway and guaranteed, providing thousands of people with work (Mediratti, 2010).
