Jamie Oliver began the ‘Ministry of Food’ after realizing that the number of people suffering from diet – related problems was drastically increasing. He believed in teaching people to start cooking for themselves and equipping them with the basic skills and knowledge such as how to grocery shop, how to cook and how to enjoy food that benefits them and their families. The ‘Ministry of Food’ aims to inspire and change the way people all over the world eat and think about healthy food. This means eating on average 3-5 meals a day. Normal eating is eating until you are satisfied and not over eating nor under eating. It is also not restricting yourself from foods you enjoy, but also making sure that you have enough of the good foods to balance out the junk food. “Normal eating” is a concept that is sometimes misunderstood and thought to be only eating healthy foods and eating a strict 3 meals per day. The government is spending an increasing amount of money on producing ‘non-smoking’ ads for television, however, obesity is now a bigger problem than smoking and there have been no ads to inform those who aren’t aware of the full consequences of having an unhealthy diet. The government should be taking responsibility as now almost 2 in 3 adults are obese. This means that into the future there will be more and more people dying or becoming sick from diseases such as diabetes. The Australia government should be warning those who are overweight about the potential illnesses and educating those who don’t know about them. The government should be taking responsibility and doing something about obesity and the poor diet of a large percentage of Australians as in the future the healthcare needed for these people will increase and cost the government a lot of money.
