In regards to successful entrepreneurs, Karsten Strauss wrote, “Entrepreneurs have a greater capacity for pain and discomfort than most. They can stay up later, work longer hours, stay more focused and, somehow, are able to set so much aside in deference to their dreams and visions. But there’s so much more that sets them apart.” Successful entrepreneurs are distinctly different but all have a parallel set of personal attributes. Each personal characteristic is a key to the overall success of an entrepreneur. The core traits an entrepreneur must display are passion, persistence, integrity, flexibility, curiosity, and ability to network. Passion is a strong love or desire. The characteristic of passion drives an entrepreneur’s excitement and willingness to invest them in an idea. Similar to a passionate parent beaming with pride when their child succeeds, successful entrepreneurs do the same with their business. A parent has a strong love for their child, and as a result devotes themselves to the success of the child. It is imperative for the entrepreneur to be “hopelessly devoted” to their idea. If truly passionate about their idea, an entrepreneur will willingly give of themselves and receive an internal reward far more valuable than any monetary items. Albert Schweitzer said, “Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.”(“ Happiness Is the Key to Success") Successful entrepreneurs will pursuit their desires and the things that make them satisfied driving success. Curiosity is a key attribute of successful entrepreneurs because it leads to risk and ideas. Risk and ideas in turn lead to reward. Curiosity is an innate behavior in successful entrepreneurs. As opposed to becoming occupied with daily routines, they ask, “Why?” and “Why not?” These questions trigger new and improved answers, and they lead to new breakthroughs. Walt Disney, the successful entrepreneur, said, “We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we 're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” (Wharez, Eddie) Similar to Disney’s belief, if entrepreneurs are curious they can make changes that are unimaginable to a rigid-thinker. Entrepreneurs should have an unorthodox method to approaching daily activities in order to create and improve businesses. The trait of curiosity is significant to entrepreneurs because successful entrepreneurs are constantly thinking, creating opportunities, and striving to make a difference.
