Subjective Social Status and Well-Being of College Students In the article “Subjective Social Status and Positive indicators of Well-Being Among Emerging Adult College Students,” by Dr. Zorotovich, Dr. Johnson, and R. Linn tells its readers that social status does affect life satisfaction and overall well-being in college students. Although the authors of this article believe that, wealthier students perceived themselves and their family’s social class to be higher than other students with less. These wealthier students felt more successful and felt more capable of achieving their goals. Furthermore, subjective social status and the objective social status could have an equal impact in correlation to well-being. Opposed to the subjective social status that solely had these effects on well-being as described by Dr. Zorotovich. The amount of income a person can decide their social status. With that said, I believe the objective social status as well as subjective social status both, could have an equal impact on health and well-being. To clarify, the objective social class uses facts when measuring, and the subjective social class by emotions and what people think of themselves. With this said, it seems reasonable to state that both facts and a person’s opinion of themselves could, in fact, both could play a role in regards to health and an individual’s well-being. Dr. Zorotovich states in his article that, “The connection between objective status and well-being has long been established” (631). Zorotovich et al, prove that subjective social status has a greater impact on well-being than that of an objective social status, and a person’s income level will play an equal role in regards to
