Introduction In the classrooms, some students have a difficult time with staying on task. They have a tendency of day dreaming, which can cause them to not complete the assignments and/or test that are given to them. This can also occur when new material is being taught. Some of the behaviors may be the result of how assignments are being presented, which can affect their academic progress and the behaviors the students exhibit. These behaviors have a negative impact on not only the student that is displaying these behaviors, but others that are in the classroom, In this paper, I will discuss my research question that is based on students in the practicum that I have been placed in. This involved giving students the ability to choose what material they wanted to use and where they wanted to complete the assignments. The data showed that when the intervention began, the latency period decreased and remained low, showing that when motivational factors are incorporated in to the academic tasks, the completion rate of the assignments were faster, the students were interested in the assignments, and the disruptive behaviors had decreased. Students are expected to be very active with their academics both inside and outside and the classroom (Koegel and Singh). When students have a say in where they are able to complete their assignments and using what materials, the students are taking that active role and completing their assignments. Also, when motivational factors were incorporated, such as using candy that can be eaten at the end, the students were eager in completing the tasks and completed them in a much quicker …show more content…

This causes them to become off task and display behaviors that are not appropriate for school and can hinder their academic progress. By creating activities that have factors to motivate them, students will began to start the assignments earlier than what they would have previously done without the factors. Also, by creating a break system, this allows students to step away from the instructional period at an appropriate time The students have to be active participants in their learning. When they take an active role, they may feel as though they are in charge. If they feel in charge of their learning, they may be motivated to complete the assignments in a faster manner. The only concern, is that we need to make sure the answers the students give are correct and are not the result of them rushing through. When the students are rushing the assignments, they are just writing something down because they know they can get something out of the
