As a member of the second cohort of the Student Teacher Residency overall the experience was an awesome opportunity. While working on my undergrad through MSUD I was also working on completing my CLDE endorsement and student teaching at the same time. This was tiresome at times meeting for entire days in the middle of a teaching week every week instead of teaching. The hardest part was the fact that in my cohort all but two others were elementary school level and not secondary level. Sue was great about trying to make it more relevant for the secondary students but most resources we were provided for the first half of the year were not useful in our classroom. I have incorporated most of what I have learned. Even though sometimes I fail to link it to a specific persons research as in to why I do it. My class is set up to embrace conversation by using group work as the primary source of student guided education. My student’s various cultures are represented in the classroom. The center of culture in my room is a world flag that is surrounded by pictures of my students and quotes that they have produced. Many quotes are in their native language. Overall, I felt very prepared to teach in a culturally and linguistically diverse populations of students. I sought out a job in a pathway school to really get to utilize what I had learned.
As I stated before one of the biggest drawbacks to receiving my initial licensure and my endorsement at the same time was the amount of time spent in class and working on class projects instead of spending that time focused on my students. Even though most of the projects we did could be implemented into our classes often times we were not given enough time to prepare to do it in the most efficient way. Maybe this was to better prepare us for our first year as a licensed teacher because, now no matter how much work is given to me by my administration team, it doesn’t seem
