Recess is a designated time for children to play with their friends, socialize, and have a break from class. The two types of recess are structured recess, which is a highly supervised planned time for the children, and free recess, in which the kids play is not under instruction. There are many reasons planned recesses have shown to increase a child's participation in school and their social skills.. One of the features of a structured recess are games and activities that have been planned by teachers ahead of recess time.a recess with pre-planned games has a great benefit towards the students. One of these advantages is the higher rate for participation, “in regular activity, irrespective of skill level.” (Text 1 line 21). Due to the fact that teachers have more time to “supervise” the children, and the children have less time to make enemies, “bullying is cut back in the schoolyard.” (Text 3 10). The more time children have to socialize without adult supervision, the more likely they are to be mean to one another, causing friendships to break and children to be more susceptible to depression. Therefore, the less enemies a child has, the more likely they are to concentrate in class and enjoy learning with their friends. Playworks structured recess is an organization that tries to make a smoother, more successful structured recess. In text 3, Susanne James-Burdumy states that, “students who participate in a Playworks-structured recess transitions from recess to schoolwork more quickly than students in traditional recess.” (line 13). In addition to this, there are many other proofs that structured recess improves classroom behavior and participation more than unstructured recess
