Analysis of Advanced Placement Essay Strengths and Weaknesses The rhetorical strategies prompt, which involves analyzing a passage and constructing an essay on the strategies the author utilizes to convey an idea, is the prompt that the class has been practicing throughout the year. There are many strong components in my rhetorical strategies essays. I open the essay with a clear, definitive thesis, setting the tone for the entire paper. The analysis consistently follows the pattern of addressing the strategy’s function in the sentence, and its function in the author’s thesis. I also close each paragraph with a strong concluding sentence. However, there are parts of my essay that need additional work. I need to improve my topic sentences by broadening them, ensuring that they are informative and clear. The analysis of each strategy needs to be equal and strong throughout the entire essay. Similar to the rhetorical strategies essay, there are several strong components in my synthesis essays. I write strong introductions, connecting the pre-thesis to the objective of the documents. Furthermore, my topic sentences are clear, and each sentence takes a side to introduce an example. Each paragraph contains a lengthy analysis of the example, which allows one to understand the ways each example connects to the thesis. Although my syntheses are usually strong, there are also parts that I can improve. I must remember to use the author’s name if I am frontloading a citation. In addition, I need to shorten my quotes to save time, time which could be used to improve my analyses or add to my conclusion. Lastly, I need to divide between syllables if I need to continue onto the next line with one word. For Wednesday, I will use shorter quotes in my examples, and carefully plan each example in the allotted time for reading the
