Rikki Tikki Tavi SNAP! A cobra’s neck snaps from being bitten by a mongoose. A mongoose is a fearsome creature that hunts and kills snakes in Asia. Rikki Tikki is a fictional Mongoose from a short story by Rudyard Kipling, and a movie that is based on the book. He was picked up and cared for by a family in India. The movie was akin to the book, with a few, but lesser variations, but mostly the movie is strictly by the book in the setting, characters, and conflict. The setting in the book and in the movie is close to identical. They both take place in the Bungalow, and in the garden near the Bungalow, In India. “There is a more to see here, than my family could see in all of their life!”( Kipling pp. 144) The Bungalow is described as a beautiful place in India, and Rikki loves it in the bungalow. There is a bathroom sluice, in which Nag goes into the bathroom through later on in the story (movie). There is also a Nursery, in which Teddy sleepy with Rikki and is very safe because of Rikki’s
The movie and the book both star Rikki Tikki Tavi, a valiant mongoose that hunted and killed two King Cobras. There is the family, consisting of Teddy and his mother and father. They both are referred as Teddy’s mother and Teddy’s father. There is also Nag and Nagaina, 2 king cobras which Rikki fights and kills. There is Darzee, the Tailor bird (Movie), whose wife helps Rikki destroy the eggs of the cobras. “Darzee, the tailor bird, helped him, and Chuchundra, the muskrat, who never comes out into the middle of the floor, but always creeps round by the wall, gave him advice; but Rikki-Tikki did the real fighting” (Kipling, page 143) The story describes Chuchundra as a shy muskrat, who never has spirit enough to go into the middle of the floor.
