Steve Jobs was born in California in 1955. He was put up for adoption and was raised by his very supportive adoptive parents (Hurley-Hansen & Giannantonio, 2013). Receiving the majority of his education in California, Steve Jobs graduated from high school and continued on to college. Attending college briefly he left after obtaining a job working for Atari, a very popular gaming company at the time. Disenchanted with his job at Atari he left and spent a considerable amount of time traveling in India. Returning from India, Jobs and a friend, Steven Wozniak founded the Apple Computer Inc. in his parent’s garage and released the Apple I in 1976 (Yukari & Fowler, 2011). Many believe that his greatest accomplishments were yet to come. Hurley-Hansen & Giannantonio (2013) state “Steve Jobs personal success and business story reflect the American dream” (para.1). Experiencing highs and lows in the business community, Jobs followed his spirit and dreams and did not let setbacks stop him from continuing. Beginning in the garage of his parent’s home, he persevered until he became the CEO of one of the most successful computer companies in the world, Apple Computer. The entrepreneurial spirit carried him through the firing and rehiring at his own company, starting and selling other companies, and transitioning easily between industries and technologies (Hurley-Hansen & Giannantonio, 2013). Instead of asking customers what features they thought they might like to have in a mobile phone, Steve Jobs was the market researcher for Apple. His innovative thought process and realizing he was creating a product that people would want, allowed him to ask himself every morning what he wanted in the current device in design (Gobble, 2012). Arriving at the Apple office he would pass along his idea and the engineers were then expected to incorporate the idea into the device.
