Level of Cola Enthusiasm: Consume it, but not partial to a certain brand Respondent #1 drinks cola about six times per month. He prefers drinking Barq’s Root Beer over cola, but if he drinks cola it is Coke. His biggest determinant in choosing a soda or cola is taste. Most of the people in his close circles drink soda and the majority drink Coke products. He is most likely to drink cola when going out to eat or to a movie. He mentioned that he never drinks cola, while alone; it is always while he is with other people. He also noted that he doesn’t drink cola by itself; it is always when eating food. His preferred brand of cola is Coke original. Ad reinforcement of his remembered preference Is what influences his choice of soda brand. Because Coke is offered at work, he mentioned that many of his co-workers drink cola. However, he does not drink cola at home. Drinking cola with his family is saved for special occasions only. When choosing a soda to drink, he mentioned that taste and food combinations have the largest influence. He is most likely to drink a cola at work, as well as at parties, picnics, and other social settings. He drinks cola alone, as well as with meals. If he goes somewhere that doesn’t offer Coke, he will not drink the alternative. If his place of work offered free Pepsi products, he said he would most likely decline. This respondent did mention that he is getting more concerned about drinking cola due to high sugar content and is seriously thinking of giving up soda overall. When asked what comes to mind when he hears the name Coca-Cola, he said, “Ice cold, instant refreshment”. When asked if he could recall any specific Coke commercials, he mentioned “Teach the World to Sing” and “Have a Coke & a Smile” both of which are commercials from the 1970s and 1980s. He is completely loyal to Coca-Cola products and can’t think of anything that would entice him to switch to Pepsi. This respondent started drinking cola as a teenager, but can’t remember his first memory of drinking cola. However, he said that when he drinks cola it makes him feel happy. He went further to say that he associates drinking Coke with many of his happy memories growing
