Stephen King “Stephen King books have sold more than 350 million copies worldwide and have been adapted into numerous successful films” (www.biography.com). He is known as America’s most famous horror writer (www.infoplease.com). King is also an actor, director, producer, and screenwriter (www.thefamouspeople.com). “He even sometimes plays guitar and sings in band called Rock Bottom Remainders” (www.biography.com). “Stephen King is a New York Times-bestselling novelist (www.biography.com). King was born September 21, 1947 in Portland, Maine (Bloom 219). His parents were Donald Edwin King and Nellie Ruth Pillsbury King (Bloom 219). In 1949, his father abandoned the family (Bloom 219). His mother then took Stephen and his adopted older brother to Indiana, Stratford, Connecticut (www.thefamouspeople.com). After a few years in Connecticut they returned to Maine, where his mother got a job as a caterer and raised Stephen and David off her scanty income (www.thefamouspeople.com).
