Essay Stephen Edwin King is an excellent writer who can tell heart-wrenching stories and thrilling tales. His childhood life was rough because of a divorce, he uses description and emotion to make fake stories become so much more real, and because of this, he is very successful. King uses scary details, and sad backstories to make his writing exceptional, with a sad backstory and detailed writing style, King illustrates his success as a writer. In 1971 King became an English teacher at Hampden Academy and began writing his first novel Carrie in his past time. After drafting the first couple chapters King became severely depressed and developed suicidal thoughts. In the midst of this King developed both a drinking and Crack Cocaine addiction which leads to the burning of Carrie, lung cancer, and family issues. King also developed the constant urge to hurt his children when he was drunk, recalling a technique learned as a child King wrote about things he didn't want to happen in real life, thus the creation of The Shining, a story about a father hunting, tormenting, and killing his son. When King’s smash hit IT came out, King moved into a Victorian style mansion in Maine, which featured stained glass windows with bats on nearly all of them, reflecting the horror stories that were being written inside of them. Tourists come from all over to see this one-of-a-kind house. Once King’s wife Tabitha kicked King out of the house and restricted all alcohol if he wanted to come back in. This, however, simply drove King mad because all of his best sellers were written when he was either drunk, sober, or high. This scared King because if he couldn't be drunk he feared he may not be able to write any more best-sellers. When King’s addiction and depression ceased he chose to finally resume one of his first works, Carrie. King changed the plot from one more aligned to Shawshank Redemption’s plot, to a girl who was mercilessly bullied and “unleashes her telekinetic powers on all who get in her way”(IMDb, Huggo). This quote is reflective of King’s life when metaphorically bullied by an addiction he chose to take a stand and face all his problems with courage.
