A national project is taking place and their goal is to talk to people and have that person write a letter to a someone in the future who hasn't been born yet here are some of the letters of those volunteers.. In the first letter, Stephen K. Robinson writes to his future family members. He talks about how as a child going to space was nothing more than just a dream, but as he got older he achieved his dream and became an astronaut. He talks about his first flight and just how fragile he noticed the atmosphere to be. His message was that we need to protect Earth today, and in hopes his family will protect Earth to. Soon after launch on January 28th, 1986, the space shuttle Challenger broke apart and shattered the nation. The tragedy was on the hearts and minds of the nation and President Ronald Reagan. President Reagan addressed the county, commemorating the men and woman whose lives were lost and offering hope to Americans and future exploration. Reagan begins his speech by getting on the same level as the audience by showing empathy and attempting to remind us that this was the job of the crew. He proceeds with using his credibility to promise future space travel. Ultimately, his attempt to appeal to the audience’s emotions made his argument much stronger. Reagan effectively addresses the public about the tragedy while comforting, acknowledging, honoring and motivating his audience all in an effort to move the mood from grief to hope for future exploration.

The long awaited trial of Tom Robinson has concluded yesterday, with the jury convicting him guilty under the charges of raping Mayella Ewell, daughter of Mr. Bob Ewell. The defendant, Tom Robinson, was accused by Mayella Ewell of raping on the 21st of November 1935. The defendant's lawyer, Atticus Finch, put up a strong defense to indicate Tom Robinson was not guilty. Atticus Finch conserved this evidence through each testimony. The first witness, Sheriff Heck Tate, testified that when he went on the scene, he saw Mayella wounded on the right side of her face but no doctor had been called. On November 23, 1960, Robin Roberts was born into the successful lineage of Lawrence and Lucimarian Roberts. She was the youngest of four children. Later in life, Roberts became one of the most notable television journalists. Being one the first female African-American sportscasters on both ESPN and ABC, she was truly an inspiration. In 2007, Roberts was diagnosed with breast cancer. She used her breast cancer to spread awareness for various types of cancer. Going to the point, where the president is encouraging the program by saying, “ I’ve always had great faith in and respect for our space program… We’ll continue our quest in space… Nothing ends here; our hopes and our journeys continue.... Dr. Shipman was only ever indicted for 15 victims and forgery, but it is believed that he murdered a little over 200 of his patients. One of which is believed to be before he started practicing, but nothing was able to come of it. The method behind Dr. Shipman was morphine. He would up the dosage for those receiving the medication or just administer it to patients who did not need morphine. Prior to his murders Dr. Shipman was convicted of forgery and kicked out of his first practice. He was addicted to a pain killer and would forge prescriptions in order to get high. To me, this emphasizes the fact that we continually embark on useless space voyages instead of considering the problems at hand. I can support this because the cost of space voyages is at the minimum of $500 to the maximum of $700 million. Found in Source B, on page 201, paragraph 3, lines 14-15 “It costs $500 to $700 million every time the shuttle flies.” This is a large sum of money, that has the capability to help many, yet we do not do this. If you can possibly visualize this, many people can find new homes, get well fed, and give their children a future to look up to, instead of wasting the money on a government project. In fact, the National Census Bureau of Statistics claimed over 46.5 people fell in poverty since 2014. Also stated, it would roughly take $175.3 billion to completely eliminate poverty. This is a tremendous amount of money, although we could have easily reduced this amount of money by limiting space exploration. Found on page 202, paragraph 3, lines 24-28 it is stated “The space station costs upward of $100 billion, yet its critics call it a “station to nowhere.” It has no clearly defined scientific purpose. In “Letter to a B Student,” Robert Oliphant argues that grades are not important, and getting a grade does not define who you are as a person. He also expresses that what is important is all on the inside, it’s how you carry yourself, and the impressions people get from you. Oliphant says, “Your grade does not represent a judgment on your basic ability or of your character. Courage, kindness, wisdom, good humor- these are the important characteristics of our species” (Oliphant 137). When you receive a “B”, it does not mean you are going to be labeled that forever. On a cold winter’s morning on the 28th day of January in the year 1986, America was profoundly shaken and sent to its knees as the space shuttle Challenger gruesomely exploded just seconds after launching. The seven members of its crew, including one civilian teacher, were all lost. This was a game changer, we had never lost a single astronaut in flight. The United States by this time had unfortunately grown accustomed to successful space missions, and this reality check was all too sudden, too brutal for a complacent and oblivious nation (“Space”). The outbreak of sympathy that poured from its citizens had not been seen since President John F. Kennedy’s assassination. The disturbing scenes were shown repeatedly on news networks which undeniably made it troublesome to keep it from haunting the nation’s cognizance (“Space”). The current president had more than situation to address, he had the problematic undertaking of gracefully picking America back up by its boot straps.
It is within man’s blood and nature to explore, and space is our next New World. Man’s first achievement in space travel was the launch of the Sputnik on October 4, 1957. For the next decades, space travel was roaring like a rocket, fueled by man’s desire to explore, man’s desire for knowledge, and man’s desire to beat his enemies. However, these impulses have died out as the well of government funding has been diverted to wars and debts, and the interest of the American people has been diverted to wars and debts. Amidst all these issues it is debated as to whether or not space travel is worth the money and the attention of scientists, particularly since humanity faces so many issues on earth currently. However, because of the past inventions, current services, and future benefits, space travel is indeed worth the money and attention of governments and people. It is within our hands to control man’s advancement, and space travel is the next venue to do so.
Humans have dreamed of leaving the earth and traveling space for many years, and up to this day they have taken many steps in the right direction. Yet, with every new frontier they approach, new problems loom over the horizon. All problems involved with space exploration may not directly involve space itself. Many of those problems surface right here on Earth. Some of the easier issues have been resolved, such as escaping the forces of gravity to reach outer space. More of these problems are far more arduous and the solutions need more time to be worked out properly. In “The Coming Schism” by James E. and Alcestis R. Oberg, humans have already begun colonizing space, yet there are still new problems arising. Major problems such as financing, communication and culture conflicts are important in the journey to space, because they all have the potential to disrupt progress.
