Statistical Research Paper
Introduction
I play volleyball as an outside hitter for Berea College. Therefore, the question I want this statistical research paper to answer pertains to volleyball. Specifically, I want to know if there is a relationship between the height of a volleyball player and the number of blocks she has in a set. A block constitutes the deflection of a ball into the opponent’s court, directly resulting in a point. I am interested in the answer to this question for a couple of reasons. First, it directly relates to one of my passions and is applicable to my current stage of life. Also, I believe the answer to this question will help me become a better volleyball player, which is an important goal in my life right now. I believe there is a positive relationship between height and blocks per set, meaning the taller a volleyball player

I decided to sample from the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) for two basic reasons: (1) it is the conference Berea College is trying to become a member of, so it would help me analyze potential, future competition; (2) the HCAC has 10 teams, which made sampling easy. To collect the data, I randomly selected the statistics for three OH from each of the 10 member’s athletic page1. I gathered two types of data on each player: height and blocks per set. The sample size for my data is 30, the most occurring height is 70,” and the average height for an OH is 69.5.” This average height makes sense because the tallest OH is 72” tall and the shortest is 66.” The minimum blocks/set is 0 and the maximum is 1.05, while the average blocks/set is 0.3. Also the mode is 0 for blocks/set [10% of population]. For additional information, see Table 1: Descriptive
The most significant information found in the post-experiment research is the information found in Caruso’s research that accounts for the swing of the arms when jumping vertically. Caruso’s experiment shows how male and female volleyball players display different vertical jump heights with the men’s being higher. She accounts for this by saying the swing of the arms results in the men being able to jump higher due to their greater upper body strength.
The Lumpkin and Favor study used a directional research hypothesis, as the investigators stated that they believed their research would prove that high school athletes had higher academic achievement than non-athletes.
There is many people out there who discredits others, and tend to overlook what they are capable of. This is done a lot in the NBA. Many overlook the most important factors of playing basketball and like to base everything off of one's scoring ability. Which brings me to the topic of the top 10 point guards in the league. All point guards should have certain characteristics in order to be considered the top in the league.
Kobe Bryant lives and dies for every single game. He is a 37 year old guard for the Los Angeles Lakers. Throughout Kobe’s 19 years in the league, he has adjusted to the challenges the National Basketball Association has to offer. Kobe was born in Philadelphia on August 23rd 1978. At a young age Kobe and his family moved to Italy where Kobe’s father, Joe ‘Jellybean’ Bryant left the National Basketball Association to purse a professional career in Italy. Kobe loved the game of basketball at a young age, grew up idolizing Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson. Kobe had a lot of trouble adjusting to Italy, the language wasn’t the same, there wasn’t boys at the local park playing basketball, it was hard for him to make friends. All the kids were playing

This is mainly due to the fact that funding was acquired to build a multi court indoor sports hall. This allowed me to have easy access to the facilities and equipment that is needed to participate in volleyball on a regular basis. Also the fact that KSHS has a volleyball unit incorporated into the senior physical education curriculum has allowed my participation in volleyball to grow as it is compulsory to participate. The access to competition has also affected my participation rate personally as each year the school allows teams to participate in the Schools Cup Volleyball competition. However KSHS does not allow the younger grades to participate in this competition this then limits the participation I had in grade 8-9 as there was no way I could compete. My participation rate was also affected in as I was not able to compete at schools cup if I competed in touch football all schools. This swayed my participation away from volleyball as there was more competitions to participate in and more chance of success in touch which therefore saw me choose to participate in touch. My participation in sport was again moved away from volleyball as the Wide Bay district area does not let students represent in both touch and volleyball. Due to the fact that my chance for success was higher when trialling for touch it lowered my participation rate in
How is Michael Jordan considered an artist? Michael Jordan played basketball and was good enough for the NBA. Better yet Michael Jordan was also an entrepreneur, he endorsed in several deals with big brands, and with present day NBA Stars. He continues to inspire young athletes around the world. Jordan is and artist because of his career as an athlete, and his entrepreneur skills.
notch fitness levels. Evidence of this physical prowess may be found in a study conducted by
After looking over the data, we can see there has been a slight increase from last year stats. In 2015, the academic success of FBS football student’s athletes went from 73% to 75% in 2016. Specifically, there was an academic increase for African Americans student athletes and Caucasian student athletes. The average GSR for African American student athletes is at 68%, up from 66% in 2015 and the average for Caucasians is 87%, up from 85%. While looking at the statistics, Gio and I were amazed on how much higher the academics records were for Caucasians than the African Americans. The African American male student’s graduation rate is 41% while Caucasians are at
Alright, sports fans, I have for you all another fantasy team preview for the 2015-16 NBA season. This article is loaded with some high upside players who should be on your fantasy basketball rosters this season. The Celtics are one of the NBA’s most beloved franchises and they’re finally getting back into the thick of things in the Eastern Conference. Just like the man he was named after, Isaiah Thomas is going to be a great point guard in the NBA. As a whole, Boston has a young group of guys who are primed to get the job done this season.
What is quantity without quality? And, to further this inequality, it isn’t only seen in High Schools but through all levels. Statistics from the Women’s Sports Foundation show that there is an extensive difference between male and female athletes who are offered professional opportunities. “Even though female students comprise 57% of college student populations, female athletes received only 43% of participation opportunities at NCAA schools which is 63,241 fewer participation opportunities than their male counterparts.” (NCAA 2014)
Applying the sports analysis on relative age to academics is quickly revealed to be a flawed approach. In athletics, it’s simple; if you’re older, bigger, and stronger, you can probably hit a baseball a longer way than your smaller competitors. However, the academic playing field has a tendency to even the odds.
To test their hypothesis they experiment with over 200 men in for two different studies. For the first study they tested 102 male physical education students and for the second study they tested 102 male athletes. For study one and study two the males completed the same set of scales: Sport Motivation Scale, Multidimensional Sportspersonship Orientations Scale, and Bredemeier's Athletic Aggression Inventory.
