My decision to apply to Eastern Illinois University’s Master of Science Technology programme is based on a careful consideration of my aptitude, interests and professional ambition of being a part of my country’s technological workforce. Though, Ghana my country of origin has seen tremendous growth in the use of technology in the past two decades there still remains a huge gap between Ghana and the Advanced World in terms of technological innovation, application and use of technology amongst the indigenous population. Motivated by the hope of bridging this technological gap between Sub Saharan Africa and the world, I file this application to your most esteemed university to seek quality education in the field of Technology.
My interest in technology started when I got my first computer. I would spend much of the day behind the computer each day. My fascination with the computer mainly had to do with the way it worked. This fascination encouraged me to read more about computers and information technology; yet the more I read the more fascinated I got with how technology has transfor...
Technology is one of the most important things in everyone’s life. Technology improves every day. in regards to today’s youth, they were born with all the new technological inventions as opposed to our parents. In “Quality Time, Redefined” by Alex Williams, published in the New York Times, the author talks about the positive and negative effects on technology. I enjoyed this reading because it related my personal day to day life. Even though some Americans acknowledge that technology is a part of their everyday life, they do not see the negative outcome of technology, they are blinded only by the positive aspects.
Science and technology go hand in hand. Scientific discoveries result in technology advancements for the people. In today’s technological world, it has progressed to a whole new level. This type of modernization opened doors for new and improved computers, cell phones, medical treatment, and machinery. In a reference article, “Computers and the Internet in America: Modern World” by Christopher Cumo, he discusses how computers and the internet have impacted human life since the 20th century. Technology has always been a part of society and as
The essay “My technologically Challenged Life” by Monica Wunderlich has made me realize how much we need technology in our lives and how important it is for people to know how to use it. Technology is used for many different things like keeping in touch with relatives that live far from you and many other things. Technology keeps evolving very rapidly and it can be hard for people to keep up with all this new technology coming out, this is what this story is about. In this essay, a woman tells us about her experiences with technology, and tells her difficulties in everyday life because of her lack of experience with technology.
Technology is a controversial issue in today’s world and especially in my world; it is important to understand that my father owns and operates a successful computer sales and repair business and so my knowledge of computer usage is quite extensive having not only listened to my father, but also having completed a high school computer internship. I am also currently working in a Technology Fellowship program. When it comes to the topic of technology, most of us will agree that technology surrounds us in today’s world—from television, smart phones, video games, tablets, to computers—we can readily access multitudes of information by simply accessing a computer internet search or turning on the television news. Technology has been a part of our
“Seriously kid!? You have the whole world at your feet, just pick something already!” he said with an aggravated look upon his face. Mr. Bluemer and I had formed quite the straightforward yet amiable relationship after serving him dinner almost every night in the dining room of the retirement home I worked at. “Mr. Bluemer, it is not that simple. I can’t just pick a job off the top of my head, there are too many things I like!” We had been having this argumentative conversation for a few nights now, ever since my college applications opened. “That’s just it Rebecca, you already know what you like, which means you already know what you should be in the future.” Mr. Bluemer had always been an insightful individual to discuss ideas with. Having gained an abundance of wisdom throughout his 86 years of life, I knew I could turn to him for guidance, but what I did not realize was that he would be the one person to inspire me the most.
Wishing to devote my career to improving performances and solving business challenges faced by Chinese chemical companies, my short-term goal after graduating from Carnegie Mellon is to join a top consulting firm as an IT consultant to further sharpen my skills with real-world business problems. In the long run, I am looking to start my own technical consulting firm, which will not only help local firms build safer and more efficient chemical plants with my chemical engineering expertise, but also assist them in establishing effective information systems, such that they could gain better insights into market trends and demand.
Although the book has its flaws, I did enlighten me on how technology affects society. I learned a great deal about technology from the book. I learned more about the increasing attachment of people to technology, how technology affects us socially, and most importantly, the e...

I still remember the day when I was introduced to a look-alike machine of television when I was in the 5th Standard. I was gazing at that screen for a while pondering about what type of television screen it is! “Dream, Dream and Dream. Dream transforms into thoughts. Thoughts results into action.” This famous quote by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam is an inspiration for my life. After graduating my engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University with flying colors, my next obvious dream was to pursue masters in my favorite subject VLSI. But I was of the opinion that I should gain some practical exposure by working in a research oriented organization to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and corporate world. I was fortunate enough to get placed in my dream company CISCO and got the opportunity to work on cutting edge technology related to System on Chips (SOCs). After 3 years of work experience, I realized to have met the transition point where the next stepping stone requires in depth knowledge about a particular field. My colleagues have encouraged my aspiration and feel that I have the potential for pursuing graduate studies.
